February 2011

Heart Hullabaloo Month

This month is all about hearts! From the human heart to humanitarians - we'll laugh, love and learn our way through the month!
Greetings!

February is our month full of hearts and we are so happy to welcome back the Tin Man to our Imagination Studio. He's in need of a heart and you can help him out.

Hearts make us think about our heart health and so we've partnered with the St. Patrick's Day Dash to help families get healthy.  Start training for the Leprechaun Lap with your kids and join us for a Practice Run around International Fountain on February 12th!

February also marks the Museum's birthday celebration. This year it turns 31!  We'll be celebrating with birthday activities for our visitors through the last week of February during our normal hours.  On Saturday, February 26th we'll host our annual Birthday Celebration Fundraiser.  If you are interested in supporting the Museum through this event, you can click here to learn more.

And we know everyone is curious about what will fill the space where Adventures with Clifford the Big Red Dog was at.  This month we'll give you a hint!

We've partnered with the Space Needle to bring an exhibit about L __ __ O!

The Children's Museum, Seattle depends on the generosity of organizations, individuals and companies to help us continue to serve families in the Northwest. It is because of those who give that we are able to open our doors free of charge to low-income families, to welcome local artists and performers and to provide a safe, clean and educational place for children ages birth to 10 and their families.

While located on the Seattle Center campus, the Museum is a separate 501c3 organization. The Museum's budget relies on approximately 40% in contributions that span from individual giving, grants and a wide variety of in-kind donations of supplies and services.

What do Chef Daddy, the Tooth Fairy and Andy the Ant have in common?  They all make their debut appearances at the Museum during the month of February AND they are all part of our continued focus on wellness.

Chef Daddy will prepare healthy kid food for the adults at the 31st Birthday Celebration on February 26, 2010.  While the children will be near-by celebrating the Museum's birthday with their own snacks, caregivers and activities, Chef Daddy will give us a chance to watch his magic in preparing healthy meals for our children.  We welcome Chef Daddy to the Museum and you can look for him in several events in the future.

The Tooth Fairy will join us on February 28th, which is National Tooth Fairy Day.  She will be visiting with families from 11am to 1pm and helping with Tooth-tacular Story Times.  Don't miss this rare opportunity to see her!

Andy the Ant has moved his room into Silly Sizes, our newest exhibit which will open February 23rd.  Andy will encourage the children to be like an ant - constantly moving, often carrying more than 50 times their weight and most of the time building, building, building their community.  Joining our six-feet-long Andy will be several ant farms - creating a math opportunity to explore Silly Sizes.    Joining 6' Andy and the ant farms, will be a whale that is as big as a boat, 4' foliage for Frog 'n' Toad, the 3 bear's house, self-directed craft table to make tiny, doll-house furniture and books galore!

Plan now to join us as we welcome Chef Daddy, the Tooth Fairy and Andy the Ant to the Museum this month!
