Discussions with Donna Marie
Yesterday at the Museum we had our
first official in-service day. In-service day, what does that
mean? When my son was in school, what it meant for me as a single-mom was an additional day to find child care! However, I also knew how important it was for his teachers to have planning and training times. We schedule three in-service days a year -
the focus of each day is to plan out a 4-month segment of programming to (1)
support our Education Guidelines;
(2) build the thematic programs; (3) pre-plan strategic partners for delivery
and/or sponsorship and (4) insert what we call "calendar fun" days.
Our in-service days let us take the next strategic step in directing our programming -
all Museum employees have a chance to "sit at the table" and bring their ideas
forward. In a free-flowing exchange of ideas and everyone can speak into the process
and bring suggestions forward to the team.
Yesterday was personally gratifying and
just plain fun. In keeping true with our mission to "bring to life the joy of discovery", that
discovery was by employees as they created programming ideas for your children.
Watch the fall/winter calendars to see their discoveries take shape.
