This month, I want to share a personal story with you. I had scarlet fever as a child and have three distinct memories during that time - (1) sleeping on a pallet in the cool basement, (2) my brother entertaining me with a sock puppet and (3) the wonder of TINKERTOYS.  In Kansas, the cool of the basement was the safest place for me and my older brother was given the task to watch over me.  As he waited for those brief moments when I was awake, he created amazing contraptions from the TINKERTOYS and made up funny stories using his sock puppet.

The TINKERTOYS had spokes, wheels, long poles and strong base pieces for his contraptions.  He could make things spin, he added baseball cards to make clicking noises, he made chairs for my favorite dolls and he brought the outdoors in by adding leaves to our TINKERTOY tree.

Well, I guess you will find it no surprise how thrilled I am to bring the joy of TINKERTOY: Building Your Imagination to TCM!  It arrives on February 13, 2010.

As your child creates and imagines, do you ever wonder what they will grow up to be?  Well, my older brother has a multi-state manufacturing company of large custom construction implements.   We hope to see the results of his patent take full form and launch later this fall.  It doesn't surprise me one bit after having a front row seat as he discovered his engineering mind.
