Discussions with Donna Marie
Every year, our doors are kept open because of the generous donation we receive from individuals and corporations in our community. On September 15th, many of our corporate sponsors gathered for our First Annual Corporate Breakfast and it warmed my heart to see a full room of individuals who care about the Museum, but more importantly about our mission. Individuals and Corporations who are willing to sponsor events such as Festivals of Light or cover the cost of admission for at-risk kids or even buy clay for the Imagination Studio are the life line to TCM during these challenging economic times. I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention all of the hard work that the Board of Trustees puts into supporting the mission of the Museum. Being passionate about play is my job ( I LOVE MY JOB) but when I see individuals weaving play and passion for children into their work-a-days lives, they inspire me to push harder and dreamer bigger.
During my speech at the breakfast, I shared this poem:
I
tried to reach the child with my words,
And
often they would go by unheard.
I
tried to reach the child with a book,
And
he only gave me puzzled looks.
Hopelessly,
I turned aside,
"How
can I reach this child?" I cried.
And
then he whispered to me,
"Come,
play with me!"
Take some time to play!
"Play keeps us
vital and alive. It gives us an enthusiasm for life that is irreplaceable.
Without it, life just doesn't taste good." - Lucia Capocchione
