Adopt-a-Family: Unwrapped
Each year
certain sponsors stand out for their enthusiasm and
generosity. Thanks to
the enthusiasm of the teachers, Rita
Francis and
Cindy Ward, two 4th grade classes (52
students) at Elda Elementary in Ross Township adopted a family of seven. Each student chose
an item from the family's wish list to
purchase and wrap. The students were so excited about their involvement that they requested to help the SELF
staff load a truck with the presents for their family.
It is because of dedicated sponsors and donors like Elda Elementary's 4th grade that the 2009 holiday season remained cheerful for 67 families working toward greater
se lf-sufficiency through one of SELF's programs. The Adopt-a-Family program gained the support of 41 sponsors, making it possible to help 212 individuals. Twenty-one generous
donors contributed a combined $1,643.50
to the program which helped provide holiday meals and gifts for families
that were not linked with a community
sponsor.

families for holiday assistance in an online database to ensure there are no
duplications in assistance. |

GWC Brief

Great news! SELF's 2010 Groupwork Camps Home Repair Initiative received a $2,000 donation from the Hamilton Rotary Club and an additional $1,000 in personal donations. The project has raised $5,050. According to the Group Workcamp Foundation, a minimum of $19,000 is needed for each camp. Hamilton would like to go above and beyond 60-80 homes, if possible. Thanks to these generous donors, we are well on our way to meeting our $26,000 goal!
