Anatomy of a Remodel - Part III of a Multi-Part Series

Once you have your budget set it is time to focus on design and materials needed for the project. You should "design to your budget." This means that you should not create a design that you cannot complete with the budgeted funds.

You may want to consider hiring a designer if you have not already. A designer can save you money in the long run, because they can help prevent the costly mistakes that happen in DIY projects. Many DIY projects exceed the remodeling budget due to lack of planning or failure to cost out each and every material needed for the project. Designers can help mitigate these cost overruns.

Designers work under a variety of fee arrangements so you should be clear about how the designer will charge for her time when signing the contract for services. The scope of services and the compensation should be clearly spelled out in the contract.  Next month - Deconstruction, Reuse and Recycling

Here Comes the Rain Again

The rains have already started here in Northern California. You can save that rainwater for your spring planting by installing a rain barrel. Whether you make your own or purchase one, it is a great way to save on your water bill.
