Green for All Seasons
"Greenabulous" Finds
Welcome to this edition of Eco-Chic Design Love the Earth, your monthly newsletter dedicated to all things green and earth friendly. Each issue I provide tips, tricks and insights to help my readers to "do the right thing" when it comes to saving our planet for the next generation to enjoy. I love to share the latest trends about green and sustainable design, ways for you to make your home a "greener" place to live, and some unique ways to live your life as green as can be. I hope you will enjoy the newsletter, and I want to hear your ideas or suggestions.

This month's issue focuses adding some "green" fun and art to your home -- especially as we approach the winter season.

Also, I love to hear from you with any tips, tricks or comments. Please feel free to e-mail questions or comments to
[email protected].

Warm regards,
Marie L. Brown
Feel the Fire

ZetaAs the rain, snows, and colder temperatures approach are you dreaming of watching the flames as you relax by the cozy fire?  Today, you have more options about fireplaces than ever before.  There are electric fireplaces, gas fireplaces and eco-friendly fireplaces.

An environmentally preferred fireplace that is more like a work-of-art than a fireplace is the Zeta.  The Zeta by EcoSmart, free-standing, portable fireplace, uses a renewable biofuel instead of wood and does not require a vent.  Most EcoSmart fireplaces may be used both indoor and out.

Another company with multiple options including gas and vent free is Spark Modern Fires.  Their vent-free option is the Fire Ribbon. You can cozy up to this fireplace and get all toasty and warm just like a wood-burning fireplace only without the soot and smoke.

Whether you are considering replacing your current fire place or adding one to your home, be sure to check with your contractor or designer to confirm that your product choice is appropriate for your location.

SkinGreen Halloween (a little creepy)

Leave it to the French to come up with something so uniquely creepy. Maybe next year your Halloween costume will be made out of Skin Bag. Skin bag is a latex fabric made from synthetic human skin used to fabricate clothing and accessories.

Wee WoolyWooly Planter - The wooly pocket is made of 100 percent recycled plastic bottles that have been felted.  The pocket is flexible, breathable and allows the soil to renew its oxygen supply.  It also has a built in moisture barrier to protect indoor surfaces from water.  The pocket comes in a variety of sizes and is handmade in the USA. For more information - www.woollypocket.com.

LanternThe Green Lantern - A very textural Shoji lantern with amber LED light bulbs and a solar panel for natural energy charge.  The lantern is also equipped with a rechargeable battery for use during those not so sunny months.  A group of these lanterns would add that extra pinch of panache to any modern garden.  For more information, visit the Green Lantern website.

Green ClockBiker Time - An Oakland artist has found a unique way to upcyle old bike parts into functional art clocks.  Each clock is unique, affordable and can be found at Clock -- an Eco Chic fave.
