Mother's Day Celebration The Pantie Raid | May 12th & 13th
|

2012 Pantie Raid for Mothers
(& their Children)
As part of our Mother's Day observance on May 12th & 13th we are collecting NEW (in the package) underwear & socks for mothers and children to be donated to SafeNest and Shade Tree. Women seeking shelter from abusive relationships often arrive with only the clothes on their backs.
(The following testimony was sent by one of our members after our 2010 Pantie Raid and was shared with her permission. Identifying information has been removed to respect her privacy.)
I want to take a moment and commend you for making the panty raid such a success! Five years ago I was a victim of domestic violence. My then husband, took me hostage in a restroom where he proceeded to beat me for 7 hours, with our 4 year old right outside the door. That same day I left. And yes, it's true when you say, "only with clothes on my back." We were homeless for two weeks. During my struggle, I remember a time when I had to choose between gassing my car or buying socks for my sons. I chose the gas because I still had to drive my sons to school and myself to work. I did seek help from the people of Safe Nest. Not only did they offer me a place to stay, they also offered me legal advice. I was fortunate enough not to stay in a woman's shelter because my good friend opened up her home to us. Yet, I am eternally grateful to Safe Nest for the help and support they gave me with my legal issues and paper work. I make it a point to donate to them every chance that I get. I thank you again for helping out such an important organization and for touching the lives of abused women and children in our community!
Respectfully,
One of your Members!
Last year, YOU made a difference
by contributing over 1,100 undergarments.
Please help again this year
as we continue to
Spread the Light &
Change the World.

U can ¢HANGE Uganda
|

During 2012 MCCLV is working with UFMCC's Global Outreach to end oppression, persecution and create a safe haven in the African country of Uganda. Our goal is to raise $1,500 to support this important and life sustaining ministry that seeks to counter the negative influences of the American Religious Right. Our Moderator, The Rev. Elder Nancy Wilson writes: We are making great alliances there, and working to help establish safe space, and also helping to establish an "enterprise zone" so that the young people there who are coming out also have a means of support, can have jobs and support themselves as they fight for human rights and try to stay in their country safely. . . . For additional information on the history and current status of the oppression in Uganda, click HERE. Consider giving an additional gift of $20, $50, $100, $250, $500 or any amount above and beyond your regular giving to this important outreach. Or pick-up one of the FREE coin banks at the info center/slat wall and start collecting your spare change.
