Inspiring Testimony . . .
|
Tithing is for me a concrete expression of gratitude to God for finally making it possible to do so (and, I admit, hope that the blessing will continue). It's an ongoing exercise in faith and trust (two things that have never come easily to me). I also feel a sense of moral responsibility to support the church, to keep it alive and energized as a force in the community, to make it available to others, and not least of all, to take up some of the slack for those who would like to give more but cannot.
Put another way, Jesus praised the widow's mite because it was all she could spare, but the hard truth is that the larger givers were the ones who kept the temple up and running. For those who can afford it, giving what we can is a spiritual and moral duty, not just to meet the serious expenses of operating a house of worship (some of which may not be obvious), but also to enable the "widows" to earn the blessings by giving their mites.

July Prayer Partner
|
Rev. Karen Thompson For the month of July, MCCLV is praying for the ministry of Rev. Karen Thompson and the congregation of MCC Austin, TX Our specific prayers for her and for the church are: - A favorable resolution to existing challenges regarding our property and how/if it can be built upon.
- Creativity in dealing with our over-crowding. (It's a wonderful challenge to have, but we're out of room.)
- For our Board as they make difficult decisions about whether we will build here or move.
- For the congregation and all their mixed emotions about our growing church. Some want to stay, others hope to relocate closer to their homes, some don't think we're moving fast enough, others don't see the need to grow, and everything in between.
