Thanksgiving break is almost here! Hang in there, teachers! In the meantime, we know how tough it can be to find accurate, engaging activities for your students-- we've been there.
With the Frazier Museum's staff of four educators, including three former classroom teachers, we collectively have over 25 years of teaching experience. We use that experience to incorporate innovative, inquiry-based learning into all of our programs: school visits, winter camps & summer camps, public programming and adult education. We have more than 1,000 years worth of stories to tell! History has never been more exciting!

The Frazier Museum is putting the emphasis on "international" as we present a holiday tree display that celebrates Louisville's cultural diversity!
Beginning November 26 the Frazier Museum, in conjunction with Light Up Louisville, will be host to "Holidays Around the World," a spectacular display of international holiday traditions celebrated throughout Louisville's diverse communities. Seasonal splendor will be represented by dozens of Christmas trees decorated in "Old World" style as well as displays showcasing holidays observed in other cultures. The celebration includes:
- Volunteers to describe the decorations and cultures represented
- Holiday music, including a schedule of local musicians performing in the Frazier Museum's Great Hall
Full access to all Frazier Museum galleries, including a chance to experience the museum's newest temporary exhibit "The Good. The Bad. The Cuddly: Toys & the Movies" featuring toys and art from Disney/Pixar's Toy Story
According to Light Up Louisville Program Coordinator, Dell Courtney, "'Holidays Around the World' is a great opportunity for all of us to share the traditions that are special to each of us, to learn about other traditions and to discover the many common threads that tie us all together." This unique display, featuring dozens of trees and displays, will run through January 2 and is free with museum admission.
Advanced registration is required. Call (502) 753-5663 to make your reservations today. |

Upcoming Professional Development Workshop | |
Primary Sources: Clues to the Past (3 credit hours)
Saturday, January 22, 2011
9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Primary sources fascinate students because they are "hands-on, minds-on" learning opportunities that transport them to another time and place. They can be integrated across all grade levels and curricula, while providing the opportunity for students to use their observation and critical thinking skills. The workshop focuses on ways to integrate primary sources into your lesson plans and techniques for using local museums as a resource. You will enjoy a live performance by one of the Frazier Museum's historical interpreters and learn how they use primary sources in the development of their scripts. In addition, we will visit the temporary exhibit "Water Works: 150 Years of Louisville Water Company." A light breakfast will be provided.
Free with advanced registration. Click here for more. |
