Hey there!
Well, I've had an exciting week... How about you? I met with Synchronicity Gallery in Glen Arbor on Monday, and am thrilled to say that they'll be carrying my work there next season! It really is one of my favorite galleries... A very eclectic mix of work. They are closed for the season, and will open back up in May. Hope you'll visit them when you're in the area next summer!

Hot Off the Easel!
| | I spent last Saturday, from 10-2 at the Traverse City Michael's store, doing painting demos to try to drum up students for my Grumbacher Acrylic classes. Here's a new landscape and a new floral that I'll be able to offer...

Early Winter... Or Early Spring 9 x 12 Acrylic on canvas panel

Winter Bouquet 12 x 9 Acrylic on Panel
If you know of anyone in the greater Traverse City area, that would like to learn how to paint in acrylic... Let them know about my classes! :) Call the Traverse City, Michaels @231-932-9706. The classes are 2 hours for $27. On Monday evenings 6:30-8:30 and Thursday's 11am-1pm.

Idea Spark-lers

Derwent Sketching Wash Pencils...yummmmy
I love these pencils! Sometimes you want your lines to be a bit untidy... or maybe a lot untidy. Here's how I play with them....
I've drawn a design with the Dark Wash pencil (8B) on Hot Press Watercolor paper. (works great on cold press or rough too)

Then I take my handy dandy squirt bottle and give it a couple of squirts. The lines explode... giving you this messy, dark and an accidentally on purpose, smudged look.
Can you see where I've used the dark wash pencil here?

And here..... I drew on top of an acrylic and then set the pencil with brush strokes of clear medium. It smeared it in all the right places. :)
Find these fabulous pencils HERE if you're interested. They come in light, medium and dark wash, and are wonderful for sketching with. They're one of my favorite tools.
GOUACHE INK RESIST EXPERIMENTS....
My friend, and fabulous artist, Lois Primeau accepted my gouache ink resist challenge... (I think it was the "double dog dare ya" that put her over the edge) Here are her wonderful efforts that she shared with me..and now you. Her subject, Bailey was oh so accommodating. :)
Thanks so much Lois!
