Hi there!

Happy Independence
Day!  We move at a slower pace here in northern Michigan. :)

Well, we're settled in (sort of) here on Platte Lake in Honor, MI...and so far so good. One of the challenging things is to remember that I'm not on permanent vacation at the lake... It's oh so easy to slip into those Margarita evenings! Yum....

I Am a Patriot
"I Am A Patriot"
21 x 14.5
Watercolor on Yupo paper

That quilt imagery has wormed it's way into my paintings for a long time. I love quilting!

As I was painting "I Am a Patriot" I was thinking..."good solid base with the freedom to dream and fly". Even with all of our problems... I love the good ol' USA.

Click here to find out more about this painting.

This is an older painting... I just started back to work this week. I'm getting ready for a show in Lake Orion in September. It feels so good to be back at it...even if I'm surrounded by moving boxes. :)

Idea Spark-lers
Do you need some painting ideas to get you going? Well, you've come to the right place!

Experiment with a new kind of paper, canvas or other support.

I'm a big fan of changing things up. Sometimes we get in a 'skill rut'...We've been a bit successful with some sort of technique and we stay there too long.... So... Switch things up!

One way is to try a new paper or canvas...Here is a list of things you might want to try...

1. Yupo paper (It's a synthetic plastic paper...non-absorbent...think finger painting paper...it's slick like that)
(Here's a link to find out more)

2. Gesso coated paper...to use with watercolor or watered down acrylic. The gesso leaves a textured surface and the watercolor collects in the texture in unexpected ways. (see painting below)

3. Paint your paper a solid bright color and then paint on top of it with opaque paint. (The painting below was painted on red painted paper)

"Panseys"

So... when you're in a rut or a bit stuck.... Change things up! Paint on something different!
