Hey there!
Happy May!
I'm knee deep in studio assembly here in Honor. They've got the paint wall up (being taped and mudded and sanded), the lights have been purchased an d the sink coming... maybe even this weekend... whoo hoo!
I have a ton of white paint to get slapped onto the walls and ceiling. And until I'm able to get back to painting (something other than walls)... I'll share some older painting that you may or may not have seen, and I'll keep the idea-sparklers coming... :)
Have a great week!

"Orange Roof At Night" 11.5 x 15 Acrylic on paper I love to paint buildings. The hard lines and edges against soft rounded foliage or clouds. This is an orphan painting, meaning that the poor thing has no friends like him. (flat outlined color shapes) He's waiting on me to paint him some friends to be seen with...or perhaps you'd like to give him a loving home? Click here for more information. |
Idea Spark-lers

| Are you in need of some painting ideas to get you going? Well, you've come to the right place!
Starting with fresh watercolor paint squeezed right onto the paper, bypassing the palette completely.
I came across this idea in a book called "Watercolor Wisdom" by Jo Taylor. (See the book here.) It's a really fun way to start off a painting.
First, you might want to have some idea of where your light, medium and dark values will go... then squeeze and drag the pure gooey pigment along some of the edges... (or you could use a palette knife)

Next, load a big brush with just water, and stroke the drippy brush over the wet paint, mixing the colors on the paper. Keep adding clean water (rinse your brush) to the moist paint on the paper, pushing and mixing the colors in the direction you want them to go.
I added some scraping too, in the example below. It's not quite finished... but is a good start to finish up later!

Next time you are scratching your head trying to decide what to paint... grab a couple of tubes of paint and draw with them directly onto the paper... Then all you need add is water!
