Greetings!
Welcome to the first edition of News to Move You, Heron's Eye Communications' e-newsletter. Our plan is to share some info and images with you every few weeks, and hopefully to hear back from you in return.
These are interesting times--environmentally and politically--in Pennsylvania, the Upper Delaware River region, and perhaps just about everywhere.
And though we may be a couple of cyberspace cowgirls, we value a productive civic discourse about our land, water and quality of life. So let's take the conversation deeper, to seek innovative solutions and to develop creative partnerships that can navigate us through these intense times. We hope you'll remain a vital part of the conversation.
Keep to it!

Food for Thought
Join us at Grey Towers National Historic Site on Sunday, October 18 for the free EnviroFest portion of the 10th annual Black Bear Film Festival. Heron's Eye coordinates EnviroFest, and we've screened some truly inspiring films for this year.
The film FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. FRESH features urban farmer and activist, Will Allen, a 2008 MacArthur's "Genius Award" fellow; sustainable farmer and entrepreneur, Joel Salatin, made famous by Michael Pollan's book, The Omnivore's Dilemma; and supermarket owner, David Ball, who is creating a new market model for our family farmers.
There are lots more fun and thought-provoking independent films being considered; the full EnviroFest schedule will be announced in a few weeks. Stay tuned... |
Breakfast of Champions
Representatives from the federal, state and county levels listened to updates on conservation priorities, smart growth and energy, and natural gas exploration--quite a lively topic that included the FRAC ACT, PA's recently nixed severance tax on natural gas extraction, and the transfer to the PA-DEP of county Conservation Districts' review of erosion, sediment and stormwater control plans for natural gas well drilling sites in the Marcellus Shale formation.
CLICK HERE to view photos from the discussion. Each public official had an opportunity to provide insight into their positions and progress on each of the topics. We'll check in with our officials occasionally for updates. |
Good Vibes
Congratulations to the Upper Delaware Preservation Coalition and the countless organizations and individuals who helped to stop the proposed New York Regional Interconnect (NYRI)--a massive power line project that would have cut through the scenic ridges and forests of the Upper Delaware River region.
Heron's Eye helped to organize a Goodbye NYRI celebration at the Narrowsburg, NY, bridge in May. The event included a powerful (pun intended) live performance by DeJay Branch of his original anti-NYRI song "We say no!" |
