Dear
|
The world-renowned Frieze Art Fair this year proved to be very strong and coincided with the Contemporary art auctions including Sotheby's sale that realized a total of 22,955,250 GPB. The fair showed off a good mix of works by fledgling and professional artists from all over the world with galleries rushing to rehang works. Miami collector, Marty Margulies, said in an interview, "When I first came, Frieze was really wild now it's turned into a really nice event. Prices are fair and it's always possible to find something you want." A big congrats goes to Sadie Coles who won best booth at the fair featuring Rudolf Stingel, Sarah Lucas, Elizabeth Peyton and Urs Fischer. Also, kudos to young artist, Simon Fujiwara, who beat out 500 other artists and won the prestigious Cartier Prize for his fictitious archeological dig that spread across the fair grounds.
Other notable viewings in London included Toby Ziegler's sculptural installation commissioned by the Zabludowicz Collection for the chapel at 176 Prince of Wales Road; Ai Wei Wei's 200 million handmade porcelain "Sunflower Seeds" installation at the Tate Modern; and Hauser & Wirth's Louise Bourgeois opening (it's now the largest commercial gallery in London to date). Frieze will always be one of my favorite fairs to attend. It's just a quick jump over the pond so why not make it an annual destination?
Yours truly, Heidi Lee heidi@HeidiLeeArtAdvisory.com Above: Jerry Saltz presented Sadie Coles (in white) with best booth award.

" I wanted to juxtapose sculptures and found objects - things that work on a very formal level, and also have some kind of poetic resonance." -Toby Ziegler

Inaugural Art Exhibition at A.T. Kearney, Global Management Consulting Firm New York
Philosopher and political activist, Felix Guattari, asserted that in order to confront capitalism's effects on the domain of ecology on everyday life, society should look to the working methods of artists. A.T. Kearney's inaugural art exhibition, Benevolent New World, curated by Heidi Lee, serves as an opportunity for viewers to be inspired by emerging international artists based in New York whose artistic output explores contemporary notions of environmental sustainability. Sustainability has been at the top of the global environmental agenda for more than a decade but an understanding of ecological responsibility is only now beginning to have a visible impact on society and culture. more View photos of installation All art is for sale.
