Campaign News Fall 2009
Greetings!

I am pleased to share with you our Fall 2009 Campaign newsletter.  As the new President/Chair of the Foundation's Board of Trustees, I am honored to thank you for your support of the Foundation.  Your generosity has not only helped the Foundation maintain its commitment to funding emerging researchers, but you have also helped us move into exciting new directions.  You will see below information about a new, high impact research grant investigating exercise interventions for adults with chronic conditions.  We will also introduce you to the recipient of our first NIFTI focusing on Health Services Research.  Both of these grants are made available thanks to you and others like you, and the ongoing support and generosity to the Foundation.

I am pleased to tell you that despite the challenging economic times, the Foundation is aggressively pursuing its mission.  The research needs of our profession are more critical than ever, given the need for evidence based practice, and the debate on health care in this country.  Loyal supporters like yourself help ensure your Foundation remains in good health.

We all play a vital role in helping to maintain the current good health of the Foundation, and promoting future growth so the upcoming challenges can be met.  Fulfilling our campaign pledges to the Destination: Research Excellence is one way we can ensure the continued financial strength of the Foundation.  Your ongoing support is critical as the Foundation is about to announce an exciting new funding opportunity, profiled in this newsletter, in early 2010.

Thank you for helping make the Foundation's 30th Anniversary such a memorable one.  We appreciate your support and look forward to sharing with you a financial update on the Campaign in early January.  Please feel free to contact Bob Brennan at (703) 706-3178 with any questions, comments or ideas you might have.

Sincerely,

Bill Boissonnault, PT, DPT, DHSc, FAAOMPT
Foundation President/Chair

Applications for the next NIFTI-HSR are due in January.  Visit the Foundation's website for more details.
Trustees Approve Chronic Conditions RFP

The Foundation's Board of Trustees recently approved funding for a $300,000 research grant, to be awarded in 2010.  This represents a new direction for the Foundation and will be the largest grant awarded by the Foundation since the Clinical Research Network (PTClinResNet) funded in 2002.  The focus of the new Request for Proposals (RFP) is "Physical Therapy Exercise Interventions to Reduce Activity Limitations and Improve Community Participation in Older Adults with Multiple Chronic Conditions."  Read more about this new funding opportunity here.
