Greetings!

This Fall we have a lot to celebrate!  Last week
Marilyn Moffat and her students at NYU woke up early to promote the Foundation and PT month on the morning shows in New York.  You may have seen them in the crowd at the Today Show wearing Foundation t-shirts and waving banners.  We are grateful for their help in promoting the Foundation!

We are also celebrating an innovative program that is training the next generation of researchers, many of whom have received funding from the Foundation.  We are excited to introduce you to DPT student Rachel Clagett and learn how she carries on the family tradition of helping others by working with individuals injured by landmines in Thailand. And this month, Abby Matienzo joined the Foundation staff.

It's that time again - our annual auction has launched. Be sure to check out the unique items featured, including swimming lessons with Stanley Paris!

Stay tuned...Next month we will tell you about a new research opportunity from the Foundation.

Brings Foundation Alumni Together
This month we are excited to introduce you to the Rehabilitation Research Career Development program, a 5-year NIH-funded grant that brings together former Foundation grant recipients and is training the next generation of physical therapy and occupational therapy researchers.

We are proud to introduce this program and just a few of the participating scholars and mentors.   Learn more.
My Summer in Thailand
Rachel Clagget
DPT Student's Volunteer Summer Abroad
In early June, we shared with you news of a generous gift from a former physical therapy patient and his wife.  Lansdale and Gladys Clagett would be proud of their great-niece, Rachel, who will receive her DPT this December from the University of South Carolina.  Rachel spent her summer working in Thailand, primarily with individuals who had been injured by landmines.  Rachel was kind enough to share her summer adventures with us.  Though she never met her great-uncle, Rachel carries on a tremendous legacy.  Read Rachel's Essay.

The Foundation Welcomes
Abby Matienzo
Abegail Matienzo
The Foundation welcomes its newest staff member, Abegail Matienzo, as Communications Assistant!

Abby graduated from George Mason University in May with a degree in Communications. She pursued a Journalism concentration and a Spanish minor. She has gained experience in her field through a variety of internships, including the National Journalism Center, Northern Virginia Magazine, and the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc., and is excited to learn more about the communications of nonprofit organizations.

Abby is a Maryland native and lives with her family in Rockville. She loves staying active through dance (ballet, jazz, and hip hop), cycling, and hiking, and also enjoys traveling. New York City has always been one of her favorite places to visit, and earlier this year, she journeyed to sunny, tropical Puerto Rico for the first time. Abby hopes to visit Hawaii and Greece sometime in the future as well.

Abby can be reached at abegailmatienzo@apta.org
