Greetings!

FPT 30th Anniversary Logo
Summer is almost upon us and with it comes wonderful things for the Foundation!  This month I am proud to feature our Scientific Review Committee (SRC) Chair Carolynn Patten, PT, PhD, as our Researcher of the Month and recognize ActivaTek as one of our newest Partners in Research.  I am also excited to welcome two new members of our staff, Karen Chesbrough as Scientific Administrator and MaryEllen Petrie, a Marquette University PT student who is interning with us this summer.

As we prepare to announce our next round of grant recipients next month, we thank the members of our SRC for their time and effort in reviewing all of the applications submitted each grant cycle.  Our next application deadline is August 19th; please be sure to help spread the word.

I also invite you to take a moment and learn more about a new service the Foundation offers through CardCafe.com.  In this season of graduations, weddings and Father's Day (June 21), we help make it easy to send cards and gifts while benefiting the Foundation.

I hope to see you in Baltimore.  We have some wonderful surprises for PT09 attendees!

A Special Thank You
The SRC Completes Spring Round of Grant Reviews
Twice a year the Foundation's Scientific Review Committee (SRC) reviews the many applications submitted for Foundation grants, scholarships and fellowships. This spring they reviewed a record number of applications for PODS-I, PODS-II and NIFTI awards. A total of 60 applications were considered for the current funding cycle.  We are thrilled that the number of applications has grown with each funding cycle because this means the Foundation's mission is being realized.  Thirty years ago our goal was to fund high quality grant applications and validate our profession through scientific research. Today, the process is extremely competitive.

We want to thank the members of the SRC for devoting tremendous time, energy and commitment to fostering the next generation of physical therapist researchers.  Many thanks to:

Carolynn Patten, PT, PhD, Chair; Linda Resnick, PT, PhD, OCS; Ann Barr, DPT, PhD; Katherine Rudolph, PT, PhD; John Buford, PT, PhD; Linda Van Dillen, PT, PhD; Linda Fetters, PT, PhD; Steven Wolf, PT, PhD, FAPTA, FAHA; and Jeff Houck, PT, PhD.

We would especially like to thank the following individuals who volunteered as ad hoc reviewers for the spring round of reviews:

G. Kelly Fitzgerald, PT, PhD, OCS, FAPTA (former SRC); Kathryn Roach, PT, PhD (former SRC); Chris Gregory, PT, PhD; Jennifer Brach, PT, PhD, GCS; and Pamela Levangie, PT, DSc, FAPTA (former SRC).

In the future we look forward to continuing to fund as many grants as possible with the help of our donors.

April Survey Results

Many thanks to those of you who participated in our April Survey.  Nearly 37% of respondents knew that the Marquette Challenge began in 1988/1999!  The question asking what has surprised you most about the profession yielded great responses.  We have no doubt you will be as fascinated as we were and are therefore enclosing complete survey results.
