Campaign News Spring 2009
Greetings!

I am pleased to share with you our Spring 2009 Campaign newsletter.  In this 30th anniversary year, it is exciting to see the many opportunities before the Foundation, thanks to your support and dedication.

I want to congratulate and thank you for your part in keeping the profession and the Foundation for Physical Therapy on track in achieving its goals, despite the major change in the economy and the markets since you made your pledge to the campaign.  Click here to read a special message for Campaign donors.

I hope you will share my excitement as you peruse this newsletter.

Sincerely,

Richard K Shields, PT, PhD, FAPTA

Bequests represented 11% of funds raised for the Campaign.  Laura K Smith, PT, FAPTA, left a tremendous legacy to the Foundation through her will.  Laura's devotion and dedication will live on through her generous gift of $526,923, which will be used to fund doctoral scholarships to physical therapists and physical therapist assistants.

Your Dollars in Motion

Thanks to your contributions to the Campaign, the Foundation announced the first new research funding opportunity made possible through the Campaign - a $146,000 New Investigator Fellowship Training Initiative in Health Services Research.   Funded half by the mentoring institution, the two-year fellowship will support the exploration of issues related to health care delivery, economics, policies and the cost analysis of various rehabilitation interventions.  Applications for the first grant are being reviewed now.  Outcomes will expand our capacity to speak with authority of the important role of physical therapy in the health care system.
