Greetings!

FPT 30th Anniversary Logo
Spring brings with it unending possibilities.  This month is no exception, as we have much to share with you!  We are proud to feature Linda Fetters, PT, PhD, FAPTA as our Researcher of the Month and recognize Tri W-G as our Partner in Research of the Month.  There are also tremendous opportunities available for physical therapy research, most notably the new research grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) totalling $8.2 billion.

I'm proud to say the Foundation's own grant program is going strong. We plan to announce another round of grant recipients this summer.  Beginning in late April we will begin to accept applications for our next grant cycle.  Details will be published in our April newsletter and on our website.

I hope you enjoy this second installment of the Foundation for Physical Therapy's monthly e-newsletter.  As always, I invite your feedback.

NIH Giving $8.2 Billion in Research Grants!

Researchers Benefit from Stimulus Package
The American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) will provide an unprecedented $8.2 billion in extramural funding to the NIH to help stimulate the US economy through the support and advancement of scientific research.  While NIH Institutes and Centers have broad flexibility to invest in many types of grant programs, they will follow the spirit of the ARRA by funding projects that will stimulate the economy, create or retain jobs, and have the potential for making scientific progress in 2 years.

Visit http://grants.nih.gov/recovery/ for more information.  You may also view specific grant information related to grants through NICHD and additional grants provided through ARRA

Major Gifts Campaign Concludes Great 2008
Despite the sharp drop in the stock market and unraveling of the world economy that started in the 4th quarter of 2008, 96% of Campaign donors have continued to pay their pledges on time!  As a result, the Foundation was able to announce a new research funding opportunity made possible through the Campaign - a $146,000 New Investigator Fellowship Training Initiative in Health Sciences Research.  The first recipient will be selected later in 2009.  Many thanks to the generosity of our major gifts campaign donors who have made this possible!
