In April 2010, Ray Edwards set up Limbcare, a charity that aims to help and support limb impaired people. This has been a vision of his since he became an amputee in 1987 and has made him more determined than ever to give something back to society, especially to disabled people and to offer hope and inspiration through the knowledge he has gained with his own disability.

Limbcare's mission statement says 'Creating independence for all limb impaired people and helping individuals improve their quality of life, offering empathy not sympathy'. That is the charity's aim and everything it does is to support that aim.
The future plans of Limbcare are to obtain a property. This will be known as 'Limbcare Centre' and will be a very unique opportunity to help individuals, their families and carers to come together to get help and support with counselling, health and fitness, access and property adaptations and to enjoy a relaxation area and fully equipped gym.
We have a dedicated team at Limbcare all with the same desire and determination, many are amputees themselves and as such the ethos of Limbcare is becoming a reality.

If you would like to find out more about Limbcare its work and the team or make a donation to this worthwhile cause then please contact us at www.limbcare.org

Greetings!
And so the rain continues - will it ever end and summer arrive?
I am repeating the article back in December 2010 regarding the establishment of the Limbcare charity as I am joining them on a Bikeathon on 24th June. If you can spare a little I would be most grateful for any support you could give.
Please don't forget to nominate a charity for a feature article or maybe there is an event coming up which could do with a bit of free PR. If so please email me and I'll do my best...

Flight Simulator Update - Sick bag not included ...

Flight SimulatorYou may recall back in December last year that I had successfully bid for an auction lot for a flight simulator ride for two and through the newsletter offered the second seat up for auction to help raise further money for the Limbcare charity of which I am Patron.

Colin Daines was the generous bidder and on 22 May just gone we set off for the day at Farnborough Airport. Colin was excellent company and we had a great day in which I fulfilled one of my lifelong ambitions.

Bikeathon 24th June ...

I went to a meeting with Limbcare last week at which I foolishly agreed to participate in their Bikeathon to raise funds for the charity.  I had already said I would provide their shirts and shorts for the event with my logo too - of course!

Therefore, I am going to do a 15-mile bike ride around Wokingham to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.  As Patron of Limbcare, a charity that raises funds for people who have lost limbs and need prosthetics to continue living a normal life, I am proud to help in any way I can.

Anything that you can give will be gratefully received and thank you very much for your support.  You can donate by texting "THRW74 £10" to 70070 or
direct to Limbcare via a number of different options using the button below.

I will report next month on my success or otherwise and the blistered derrière that I no doubt shall get!

Go grab a coffee...

I was recently tuned in to the Stephen Nolan late night show on Radio 5 and listened to a heartwarming interview of a man who has overcame enormous turmoil and adversity.

It was a most eloquent interview about life without loved ones, as a single parent, with a disabled child and the rights or wrongs of the new legislation which means that disabled people now need to undergo means-testing to continue to receive financial help and support.

You can hear the interview through the BBC iPlayer via this link and navigate to 1:28:22 into the show. It lasts about half an hour.
