Greetings!

All Star imageFirst of all I'd like to say thank-you to you all for your continued interest in the newsletter. Last month I achieved an award from Constant Contact for having extremely high open rates, excellent click through rates to relevant articles and extremely low bounce rates, and only three unsubscribes over the whole year! So I'm now a Constant Contact All-Star!
This month you'll see a number of articles directly and indirectly related to the Equality Bill. As this progresses through to becoming the Equality Act, I shall keep you informed of how the new legislation directly affects you and your business and what to look out for.
Rather than have a charity for the month this time round, you'll notice that I am seeking nominations. See the editorial column on the left for more details.
Equality Bill - Passes Third Reading

The Equality Bill has passed a third reading in the House of Lords, which is the last stage at which it can be amended before it becomes law. The Bill, which requires businesses to report on gender pay gaps and bans age discrimination, will now undergo final consideration in the House of Commons before it receives Royal Assent. The Bill also includes a ban on employers asking for health and disability information before making someone a job offer. Read more... (article courtesy of People Management).

Equality Bill - Possible implication to websites

Is your website accessible? In the forthcoming Equality Act legislation, there is a fairly unassuming clause which may allow disabled people to request that sites are removed from the internet if they do not follow accessibility guidelines.

More details to follow in a later newsletter, but in the meantime if you want to stay one step ahead, SMP Consultancy can undertake an accessibility review of your website now! Email me for details...

Restoring partial vision to visually impaired people
