Emmaus logo

Emmaus Communities offer homeless people a home, work and the chance to rebuild their lives in a supportive environment. Their Companions do not claim benefits and must work in their shops to raise money to fund the community.

They rely on donations of good quality furniture and household goods collected by their Companions from the public or brought to their warehouse by the public and are then sold in their High Street shop - 103/104 High Street Colchester or their Warehouse at 4A Arthur Street, Colchester.  Please go along and browse.

You can make a donation to this worthy cause by calling 01206 768887, or to support Emmaus Colchester or if you have any other enquiries please telephone 01206 541616.

Their website has much more information so please follow the link to find out more....

Greetings!

For those of us who network regularly, we know how important relationship building is to the networking process. You may therefore be interested to know that I have recently become a member of the Business Woman's Network, and by way of supporting that further, Mandie Holgate (the founder) is my inspirational person of the month.
In this edition you'll also find a couple of articles related to the benefits of employing people with disabilities along with the normal mix of topical discussions related to disability.
I'm also delighted to promote the Colchester branch of Emmaus as my charity of the month.

The disabled traveller - a recent survey

Britain's leading travel companies are failing to serve the needs of disabled travellers, new research has found.
The study, carried out by Co-operative Travel with the assistance of Tourism for All, a British-based charity that specialises in travel for the disabled, found that 85 per cent of respondents did not believe travel agents understand the needs of disabled travellers, and 78 per cent did not feel they were catered for by high street agents. The survey also found that 35 per cent would not consider booking with a mainstream travel agent.

The Tourism for All website has masses of information for the disabled traveller...
Inspirational People - Mandie Holgate
"I am passionate about every aspect of my life and I enjoy helping others do the same".
Mandie HolgateNot the words you would associate with someone once diagnosed with such severe clinical depression that it nearly killed her.
Whilst recovering, Mandie realised a new career direction was calling.  She recognised that there was a distinct lack of supportive, educational networking opportunities for business women and as a result... Mandie set up the Business Woman's Network.
From sole traders to national organisations she now actively supports businesses to get the answers and the connections they need in order to succeed.
