Farleigh Hospice is a registered charity providing hospice care to people aged 18 and over in Mid Essex.
Caring for the lives of individuals who have been touched by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses is at the heart of our philosophy. At any one time Farleigh Hospice is providing care, totally free of charge, to around 1,100 local people affected by cancer and other life limiting illnesses. Care and support services are extended to carers and family members, including children. To fund this care, the charity relies on people fundraising, leaving gifts in their Wills, making donations and supporting their charity shops. Charity no. 284670.

| Inspirational People - Tracy Shave |
|
Tracy Shave has been a youth worker, programmer, IT Tech support, waitress, account manager - the list goes on; each ending because of her illness. A week before Christmas in 2001 she lost everything in a house fire (resulting in another job loss), became homeless and then found out she was pregnant, which changed her world forever and probably saved her life. Bipolar, single mum, carer to an autistic son, she manages without medication, ticking many client group boxes. Despite this, or possibly because of this, she has achieved more than she ever dreamed. You may recall that I was co-sponsoring the above event in Chelmsford during early October. The event was a tremendous success and raised significant awareness amongst the local people and businesses over the five days. Here's some of the people who got involved (photo courtesy of Essex Chronicle).

|
As a follow-up to the recent articles on Mental Health, here's a link to a news item featured in the Guardian newspaper on work related stress.
"According to the Health and Safety Executive, work-related stress is now the UK's second-largest occupational health problem, after musculoskeletal problems. In 2007/8, 442,000 people in Britain said they were experiencing work-related stress at a level that was making them ill".

From BBC Ouch!...
You don't have to be deaf to appreciate text messages, but as of this month, if you are deaf, sending a text might do more than just help you socialise - it could save your life.
A new system is being trialled that allows people who can't hear, or those who can't speak, to contact the emergency services by texting 999. A national service using those 3 famous digits.
But please be aware that you need to register to use the service. | |
