Greetings!
Welcome to the Ignitus Worldwide News, formerly the E-Watch News of Youth Crime Watch of America. We've rebranded our mission and look, but YCW safety programs are still an important focus for us. We've also added new programs to the mix like peer mentoring and civic engagement so that Ignitus youth can have an even greater impact in their communities.
This edition spotlights news submitted by our Next Generation Board (NGB) across the globe. We're excited about the leadership they're showing and the impact they're having in their schools and communities. Visit out new website to learn even more about them. And enjoy reading about the exceptional efforts of our ignited youth!

Pie-throwing Fundraiser Success!
The Phantom Youth Patrol at Morgan Fitgerald Middle School in Pinellas Park, FL held a recent creative fundraising event, their first attempt at raising money. Students threw whipped cream pies at the faculty and staff to pay for their atten-dance at the 2011 Ignitus Summit event and to create several youth anti-crime public service announcements. Not only was the fundraiser a hit but it attracted new members to the Patrol, too. Already, teachers are lining up to turn the tables for a pie-throwing throw-down of students next year, likely to top this year's donations. Congrats Phantom Youth! View more great pie photos ... |
Youth Deter Drugs, Crime, Racism
During the FIFA World Cup, South African crime statistics were at an amazing all-time low. South African youth demonstrated that they are not a risk to their country or the rest of the world. YCWSA is doing their part carry on this track record through positive leadership training in schools. The goal is to educate and inform students to set the example for other youth. This September, YCWSA, in partnership with SANCA (The South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence), hosted a program of Substance Abuse and Counseling training. The training covered all areas of drug abuse with proven strategies. The event was well received and students were sent back to their schools with the mission of helping their peers employ the recovery and prevention strategies learned at the training. Monroe Bike Giveaway When Ignitus introduced the new YCW Site Model, Outcome Measurement System as well as the goals and objectives for each YCW official site Monroe Middle School teachers got excited! They viewed the "Starting a YCW Site" webinar and quickly realized they could find time to participate in different components without burning out. Now the Tampa, Florida school has a Faculty Core Group that works alongside the Student Core Group to plan and implement new strategies. Also, this year, the school launched a bicycle helmet safety program for incoming 6th graders who each receive a helmet by the Charger Patrol once they're educated. The Patrol is even arranging with the school's Officer Williams for several refurbished bikes to be awarded to all winners of the YCW safety poster contest. More...

Sandals Foundation Sponsors Crime Prevention-Entrepreneurial Training for YCW Jamaican Youth
The Sandals Foundation sponsored the Youth Crime Watch summer programme in Primary and Junior High Schools of Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine. The much-needed assistance allowed the YCWJ team to implement its six-week programme, which took place during the summer holidays. The programme carried the students through a host of training, simulations, role playing, and presentations, which culminated in the development of action plans and a proposed entrepreneurial venture. Each school will continue to focus on the effort during this school year. The Sandals sponsorship also aided in offsetting costs associated with the provision of refreshments and basic transportation for all training participants. More... |
