CLOUD COMPUTING SECURITY
Cloud computing is picking up traction with businesses, but before you jump into the cloud, you should know the unique security risks it entails.
Computing, in its purest form, has changed hands multiple times. First, from when mainframes were predicted to be the future of computing. In recent history, client-server environments connected to the internet. Today's "cloud computing" offers centralization of all things interconnected in a shared cloud of infrastructure, operating systems, and applications. Notably, along with the changes in computing trends, the need for security has remained constant. However, the ownership of who must be accountable for security "in the cloud" has introduced new challenges.
Drivers of cloud security will be discussed along with the impact of cloud computing on regulatory issues, economic drivers, and IT professionals. Also, a discussion of what should go in the cloud and why, as it relates to security risk management and compliancy concerns. Additionally, we will discuss timing; when does it make most sense to move to the cloud.
Finally, we will look at cloud computing using a very simple and pragmatic parallel to the power industry.
