Registration is now open for upcoming October workshops offered by the URI Cooperative Extension, highlighting products and practices that can assist municipalities and professionals with Low Impact Development and stormwater solutions.

Rhode Island Residential Rain Garden Training

 

The University of Rhode Island Cooperative Extension is offering a Residential Rain Garden Training Program for landscapers, designers, maintenance care providers and volunteers.

 

The training includes both classroom training and hands-on experience building a rain garden. It introduces professionals to rain garden siting and design and helps prepare them to offer rain garden installation and maintenance services to clients and/or implement and maintain rain gardens in public spaces.

 

Topics will include:

- Urban and Suburban Stormwater Impacts

- Fundamentals of Low Impact Development (LID)

- RI Stormwater Management Regulations

- Rain Garden Siting and Sizing, Planting Design, Installation and Maintenance

 

A limited number of seats are reserved for municipal officials, at reduced cost, for those participating in the Storm Water Education Project (RI Stormwater Solutions), thanks to project funding by the RI Department of Transportation. Registrations accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Rhody Native Propagation Workshop Series   

 

Registration is now open for a new workshop series offered to nursery industry professionals by the University of Rhode Island, in cooperation with the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association and the Rhode Island Natural History Survey. The workshop series is intended as a collection of industry best practices for nurseries interested in diversifying or training employees in native plant propagation.

 

Workshops 1 (The Native Plant Industry with a Local Focus)and 5 (Panel Discussion: Sources of Demand and Marketing of Native Plants) are open to municipal officials, habitat restoration practitioners, and others. Municipal employees interested in use of low-maintenance native plants on public properties will find useful information on native plant sources and local availability.
