Enviroscape Model Training

September 17, 2011

Thank you for your recent interest in providing stormwater education in your community and the EnviroScape watershed/nonpoint source model.

The URI Outreach Center and RI Stormwater Solutions Program is partnering with the URI SMILE Program (Science and Math Investigative Learning Services) to offer EnviroScape model training on:

September 17, 2011

Each year, the SMILE Program develops new science and math curriculum for use in an after school academic enrichment program for students in fourth through twelfth grade. The SMILE Program has scheduled a Professional Development Day for teachers on Saturday, September 17 to present a Watershed Stewardship curriculum for the 2011-12 academic year.

The EnviroScape model will be presented at 9:45am-10:30am in URI's Multicultural Center as part of this teacher training.

Based on your interest in the EnviroScape model through our summer Farmer's Market outreach program, you are being invited to attend this 45-minute session at no cost. Please sign in at Hardge Forum Room 101 in the Multicultural Center for room location. After completing the model training, the EnviroScape model will be available to educators on loan year-round through the URI Outreach Center. Please contact Kathryn Schortmann to sign up for the training or with any questions at kschortmann@my.uri.edu or (401)-820-0008.

To participate in the full Professional Development Day and receive training and materials in Watershed Stewardship, you must register with the SMILE Program. Registration for the full day training is $100.00. Please contact Lacey Feeley at Laceys@mail.uri.edu or

(401)-874-2036 for additional information about the training or to register.

The EnviroScape model is a colorful, hands-on table-top model that is widely used to help kids from age 5 to 95 visualize the sources of pollution. The model is an ideal tool to help students understand the concept of a watershed, non point source pollution, stormwater runoff, and water quality.
