Rhode Island Stormwater Design and Installation Standards Manual: Workshops Part 3 & 4

This two-part workshop will provide specific and detailed information about elements of the 2010 RI Stormwater Design and Installation Standards Manual.  Attendance at both workshops is recommended for more complete understanding of designing, operating and maintaining constructed stormwater practices.
 
Workshop Part 3: Designing Effective Stormwater Management Systems
Date:  March 22, 2011
Registration: 8:00 am
Time:  8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Location:  University of Rhode Island, Kingston Campus, Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences Room 10

Topics will include:
  • Spring 2010 flood and beyond
  • Required management volume calculations and redevelopment considerations 
  • QPA requirements/credits 
  • BMP design: water quality, pretreatment, and storage  
  • Design example: residential subdivision 
  • Case study: redevelopment/infill 
  • Regulatory update and permit coordination 
  • Discussion and Q&A

Workshop Part 4:  Detailed Specifications and Measures for BMP Construction and Maintenance
Date: March 24, 2011
Registration: 8:00 am
Time:  8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Location:  University of Rhode Island, Kingston Campus, Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences Room 10

Topics will include:
  • Recap of Water Quality BMPs 
  • WVTS - shallow and gravel 
  • Infiltration - including permeable paving
  • Filters
  • Open channels
  • Construction and maintenance summary
  • Discussion and Q&A
Attendance at both workshops is appropriate for: design professionals including those who prepare operation and maintenance plans and are accountable for long term maintenance.

Advisory to communities participating in the URI Nemo Storm Water Education and Outreach Program under DEM's MS4 permit: Attendance at these workshops is required for the appropriate MS4 staff with primary responsibility for technical review, design, implementation, or long term operation and maintenance of stormwater management practices associated with MS4 property or land development projects. The training is highly recommended for other appropriate municipal and MS4 staff involved in review and approval of construction projects using the storm water manual.


Cost: FREE, but registration is required by March 15.

Please note both workshops will be held in Room 10, a smaller auditorium better suited to discussion.  Seating is limited with priority given to MS4s representatives registered by March 15; all others accepted in the order received.

Reserve a Display Table! 
 
For the two events that we are hosting in March, we are offering table display opportunities to showcase your work, services or products:

We are welcoming private and non-profit sector organizations to reserve display table space in the exhibit /refreshment area outside the CBLS auditorium.

 

Tables will be provided and can be reserved for $300 per day or $500 for both workshops.  Proceeds will be used to provide  refreshments for attendees at the trainings. Reduced rates available to non-profit organizations by request.

March 31, 2011 and April 1, 2011:  Rain Garden Certificate Program -- A full day on siting and design details, followed by a half-day, hands-on field installation
