Registration is now open for our upcoming workshops addressing the newly revised Rhode Island Stormwater Design and Installation Standards Manual. Please visit the link provided below to register online.
As previously mentioned, these two workshops will be the first in a series to be held this winter and spring, related to new state initiatives in stormwater management.
Please be sure to bring your copy of the manual to the workshops. It will be used in the component of the program that focuses on design exercises.

Rhode Island Stormwater Design and Installation Standards Manual: Workshops 1 and 2
The final December 2010 version of this newly-revised state stormwater manual will be the topic for this two-part workshop. Attendance at both workshops is recommended.
Workshop Part 1: Using the Revised Manual
Date: January 13, 2011 Registration: 8:00 am
Time: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Location: University of Rhode Island, Kingston Campus, Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences 100
Topics will include:
- an overview of the manual and the need for its update
- how to use the manual
- LID site planning design strategies
- water quality BMPs and selection criteria
- practice exercises
- discussion and Q&A
Workshop Part 2: BMP Construction and Maintenance Date: January 19, 2011
Registration: 8:00 am
Time: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Location: University of Rhode Island, Kingston Campus, Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences 100
Topics will include:
- why proper installation is important
- design elements for BMPs
- overview of materials specifications
- common construction problems and proper inspection
- erosion and sediment control
- the importance of maintenance and proper inspection
- required maintenance measures
- maintenance exercise
- typical maintenance costs
- discussion and Q&A
Attendance at both workshops is appropriate for: designers, planners, engineers, municipal officials, and anyone interested in stormwater standards
Both workshop parts are required for MS4 compliance with Education and Outreach minimum measures.
Cost: Free, but registration is required.

March 22, 2011: The Rhode Island Stormwater Design and Installation Standards Manual -- A detailed look at the required sizing calculations and critical elements of BMP design.
March 24, 2011: The Rhode Island Stormwater Design and Installation Standards Manual -- A detailed look at the required specifications and measures for BMP construction and maintenance.
March 31, 2011 and April 1, 2011: Rain Garden Training for Landscapers -- A full day on siting and design details, followed by a half-day, hands-on field installation
