Greetings!
No, we don't simply mean the higher amount of rainfall that is typical for September in Rhode Island. We mean two upcoming events related to the topic of stormwater. Please read below for details about a RIDEM-sponsored trip to the UNH Stormwater Center and a workshop being held in Middletown. |

With the release this fall of the RI Stormwater Design and Installation Standards Manual, the RIDEM Nonpoint Source Pollution Program is sponsoring an educational field trip for all RI Municipal DPW, Engineering and Planning officials to the University of New Hampshire Stormwater Center's testing facility. There are 15 stormwater BMPs under testing, including both traditional and low impact development (LID) techniques. A number of additional LID sites are currently under construction and will be ready in time for our visit. We will tour the testing facility, and have a working lunch with a presentation by Dr. Robert Roseen, Director of the Stormwater Center. You'll have a chance to ask Dr. Roseen all the questions you have about stormwater BMPs, their applicability to a variety of situations, their design, operation, maintenance and cost. |
Middletown-Easton Bay Stormwater Public Outreach Workshop

Time: 6-8 PM
Location: Middletown Town Hall located at 350 East Main Road
Workshop Description & Goal: Middletown will be hosting a public outreach workshop for Middletown residents and businesses located within the Easton & Atlantic Beach watershed areas (Easton Bay area) focused on bacteria problems. The intent of the meeting is to educate locals on the extent and cause of the bacteria problem, what stakeholders can do to help reduce stormwater runoff problems, and act as a forum to receive public input.
Group stakeholders including RIDEM, RI NEMO, CRMC, Clean Ocean Access, Newport, & "RI Water Lady" (local rain barrel distributor) have been invited to help answer questions and provide educational brochures and flyers. Booths/stations for these groups will be available to present educational materials and provide an area for discussion with residents.
