Raising A Reader MA:
Early literacy for lifelong achievement

Satellite community map sans title October 2012

Cities and towns not on the Governor's list of Gateway Communities may still have a need for early literacy support for vulnerable children and families. Satellite communities, our new train the trainer model, makes it possible for us to bring our unique, high-impact early literacy program to these families in partnership with early education program.

Learn more about how we are able to reach the families of nearly 10,000 children every year with the launch of the satellite program we developed and tested in Plymouth with support from BNY Mellon.

From 8:00 AM on October 10th through 8:00 PM on October 11th, Raising A Reader MA will compete with more than 500 other area nonprofits to raise the most money from the highest number of individual donors through the Boston Foundation's Giving Common Challenge. This online campaign is intended to raise awareness of the Boston Foundation's new online donor portal, the Giving Common.

You can help in two ways:

1. Schedule time between 10/10 and 10/11 to make a donation of at least $25 online through the special Giving Common web link.

2. Spread word of the campaign on 10/10-10/11 through your Facebook or Twitter networks.

We will send you the special web link for the campaign at 8:00 AM on 10/10/12.

If we either raise the most money OR secure the highest number of individual donors we will win additional prizes of up to $25,000 from the Boston Foundation.

What are the incentives for you? to give during the campaign

1. Jim and Kris Blue have agreed to match every donation with another gift of $25 (up to $2,500). So you give $125 and Raising A Reader MA gets $150.

2. We will be offering prizes throughout the campaign for donors. Prizes range from tickets to our Celebrating Reading, Family-Style breakfast on November 15th at the Boston Harbor Hotel to a 5-gallon barrel of handcrafted, micro-distilled rum from our friends at Privateer Rum.

About Us
Raising A Reader MA is an evidence-based early literacy organization dedicated to helping families of young children (newborn to age 5) develop, practice and maintain habits of reading together at home. Our work, which both increases access to books and offers families tools and support for strengthening the culture of reading at home, is driven by 25 years of research that shows the single most significant factor influencing a child's lifelong achievement is being regularly read to by their parents and adult caregivers before starting kindergarten.
