Hello, :
It's that time of year for our annual admonition to those who think conventionally.
Contrary to public opinion, summer is The Best Time of Year to market. Here's why:
1. Summer affords a more leisurely pace, less stress.
2. It's a great time to create, foster and maintain relationships.
3. The weather encourages al fresco dining.
4. You can lure clients, prospects, allies, vendors, advocates out of their offices.
5. You can accomplish marketing activities you didn't have time for other times of the year:
a. Write a simple Marketing Plan (www.azobleassoc.com).
b. Prepare a summer schmoozing schedule (www.azobleassoc.com).
c. Hire a Marketing Consultant to help your marketing become more consistent
(BroadsOnBusiness.com).
c. Develop a Marketing Team.
d. Hold weekly staff marketing meetings.
e. Review your collateral materials.
f. Launch an educational newsletter.
g. Work with a public relations expert.
h. Update your website, improve your SEO.
i. Create a seminar or two.
Are you getting the idea? These examples are merely the tip of the iceberg on how to engage your staff and get everyone enthusiastic about marketing your company, practice or non-profit.
Take advantage of others' lightened schedules. They would be pleased to receive a luncheon invitation (don't bribe prospects; these invitations are for clients and advocates to show your ongoing appreciation for their business and support respectively).
It's time to become realistic: people vacation an average of one week during the summer, out of 13 weeks in the quarter. If you postpone a strategic planning session, because Connie or Carl will be on vacation that week, consider the chances of Connie or Carl calling in sick during another time of the year.
When it comes to marketing, stop procrastinating! Take advantage of the season that was made for marketing. Even if people tell you they're not going to make any decisions until after Labor Day, you'll be able to hit the ground running on Tuesday, the day after. Others will still be doing their best to get back into the swing of things.
It's called competitive advantage. Happy Summer Marketing and Schmoozing!
