Marketing Myth #24: We have a Marketing Plan, Adrienne . . . in our Heads. |

 |
Ummm, I don't think so. Your Marketing Plan needs to be written. Especially now, when there are so many negative comments flying around about the economy, a Marketing Plan is a must.
Here's the conventional wisdom about Marketing Plans:
"I don't need a Marketing Plan; my company is just me."
Or, "I don't have the time to do a Marketing Plan. Business is pretty good. Why bother?"
Or, "business is way off. I don't have the thousands of dollars someone will charge me to prepare a Marketing Plan. And, if I were to hire a Marketing Consultant to help me with a Plan, where would I find the money for its implementation?"
Wrong on all counts. If you don't know where you're going, no map will take you there. Consider a Marketing Plan as your map or guide. It will help you focus your marketing efforts. It will prevent you from going off in myriad directions with one-shot advertisements and mailings that accomplish nothing.
Every business needs a Marketing Plan, regardless of its size. Moreover, Marketing Plans don't have to be a minimum of 60 pages, with pie charts and graphs. There are highly effective Marketing Plans that run a mere two pages.
In marketing, it's not what you spend, but how you spend it. Rather than costing you more money, a Marketing Plan can actually show you strategic ways to spend far less money to achieve considerably greater results.
It's time to position yourself and your company away from your competition. It's time to think about Summertime Marketing. People vacation an average of one week. There are 13 weeks to summer! How are you going to keep your name out there and the revenue coming in?
That's simple: with a brief, do-able Marketing Plan.
