Greetings!

Welcome to the Volunteer E-Update; your monthly update on activities for the CERT, RACES and Fire Corps programs.
Calendar
This Month...
September 6RACES Meeting (6:15- 8:15 PM)
Topic:  TBD.  *Bring a Pound of Pasta to the meeting to continue with our challenge.

September 10:  First Responder Expo and Volunteer Service Day (9:00 AM - 1:00 PM)
Join us for a day of service and skills practice alongside our First Responders.  We will be hosting four CERT skills stations:  Triage, First Aid, Cribbing and Fire Suppression.  Additionally, we will be demonstrating and providing amateur radio support for the event. Volunteers are also needed to provide a public demonstration of light search and rescue alongside our first responders. September 11:  September 11 Memorial (12:30 PM)
A memorial will take place at Pearson Park Theater.  All volunteers are welcome to participate in the memorial event. [Memorial Flyer]

September 13:  CERT Meeting (6:30 - 8:30 PM)
Topic: Citizen Preparedness Exercise   *Bring a Pound of Pasta to the meeting to continue with our challenge.

Looking Ahead...

October 1:  Citizen Preparedness Exercise (Drill) (8:00 AM-3:30 PM)
Join us to participate in this year's Citizen Preparedness Exercise.  We will have a very special guest speaker, Holly Johnson, from Joplin, Mo. who will speak about volunteer activities in the wake of their major tornado disaster.  Exercise training will include:  Team Organization; Search and Rescue; Triage and Treatment; Sandbag Placement; Cone Traffic Lanes; Radio Usage; and much more.   

October 1:  City-County Radio Exercise (9:00 -11:00 AM)
For those not participating in the Citizen Preparedness Exercise, the city will simultaneously be participating the the county-wide radio exercise. 

October 4RACES Meeting (6:15- 8:15 PM)

October 11:  CERT Meeting (6:30 - 8:30 PM)
Topic: POD Exercise Training   *Bring a Pound of Pasta to the meeting to continue with our challenge.

October 20:  Great California Shakeout (10:20 AM)
Participate in the Great California Shakeout by registering at www.shakeout.org and committing to "Drop, Cover and Hold On" at 10:20 AM.

October 21:  Point of Dispensing Exercise (11:30 AM - 1:30 PM)  Join us for our third exercise with the Orange County Health Care Agency to disseminate free flu vaccines to the public.  This year's exercise will take place at Sunkist Community Church.  Volunteers are needed for various positions as well as radio communications.

Help is needed with various clerical assignments.

CERT Training Class
North Net Training Center, 2400 E. Orangewood Ave.
Classes are scheduled for the following Saturdays:  Saturday, September 17, October 15, November 5, December 3.  Help is needed with class registration, assisting with setting up and putting away class equipment.  This is a great opportunity to review the class as a refresher.
Preparedness Month Art Contest
Hi Neighbor Logo











Mayor hosts elementary school art contest to encourage neighbors helping neighbors prepare for emergencies.

 The Mayor's Office and the Fire Department Emergency Management Division want you to be prepared.  Children in grades 1 through 6 are encouraged to enter the art contest with a chance to win prizes including Anaheim Ducks Hockey tickets. 

To enter, download a copy of the entry form and submit it with your artwork no later than Friday, October 7.

Flood Fight Methods Course for Volunteers

Thursday, September 15
8:00 am - 3:30 pm
Huntington Beach 

 

The Flood Fight Methods Course offered by the California Department of Water Resources is designed to assist government and public agencies, groups and volunteers in the implementation of corrective temporary methods utilized while combating flood-related problems. The course is presented as a public service, free of charge and consists of an eight hour day. Appropriate work clothing and safety gear

should be worn.

Pre registration is REQUIRED AND SPACE IS LIMITED.

   

This is a physical class requiring the ability to lift and move sand bags.  You should not participate in this class if you do not have the ability to lift, bend, stoop, squat, and hold heavy objects (25-40 lbs), twist and rotate.

   

How to Register: 

Please submit your interest in the class to Mary Jo at CERT@anaheim.net or call (714) 765-6955).  Once enrolled, you will be given a special parking permit for the class day.
