May 1: Pet Lover's Disaster Info Day (11:00 am-4:00 pm) "SCART and the Orange Dog" are hosting a Pet Lover's Disaster Info Day at the Orange Dog Bar & Grill at 18552 Beach Blvd in Huntington Beach, CA 92648. May 3: RACES Meeting (6:15- 8:15 PM) Topic: First Aid Kits. Put together or update your first aid kit. What is a necessity, and what is nice to have. *Bring a Pound of Pasta to the meeting to continue with our challenge.

June 14: CERT Meeting (6:30 - 8:30 PM) Topic: Team Site Activation Exercise Incident Action Plan and activities. *Bring a Pound of Pasta to the meeting to continue with our challenge.
June 18: CERT Search and Rescue Drill (9:00 am - 2:00 pm). We will be activating two CERT team sites and delivering preparedness materials to the neighborhoods surrounding each site. We'll inventory equipment at each site as well as organize and utilize radio communications to accomplish our task. We'll all convene at one park together to debrief and enjoy a pot-luck lunch. June 25 & 26: RACES Field Day (24 hour event starting at 9:00 AM on Saturday). Toyon Park, 945 S. Weir Canyon Rd. We will have the RACES trailer, a Get on the Air Station, CERT demonstrations and much more! RSVP races@anaheim.net.

Volunteer Opportunities

Fire Services Day 8:00 am - 3:00 pm, Saturday, May 7 North Net Training Center, 2400 E. Orangewood Ave. Help is needed with event set-up and staffing, assisting fire department staff with various tasks, hosting a booth for CERT, Fire Corps and RACES and much more.
Fire Administration Office Weekday mornings or afternoons Help is needed with various clerical assignments.
CERT Training Class 8:00 am - 1:30 pm, Saturdays once a month North Net Training Center, 2400 E. Orangewood Ave. Classes are scheduled for the following Saturdays: May 14, June 11 and July 16. Help is needed with class registration, assisting with setting up and putting away class equipment. This is a great opportunity to review the class as a refresher.
First Aid Simulator Craft Project Crafty volunteers are needed to design some artificial legs to help teach applying a tourniquet correctly. Donations of old jeans, nylons, batting, and PVC pipe can be assembled to look like a badly injured leg. If you want to help make a leg for training, contact Mary Jo for a set of materials and design instructions.

This course is intended to help animal owners, care providers, and industries to understand incident management. The objectives of this course are to increase awareness and preparedness among animal owners and care providers, and to describe how typical hazards affect animals and what can be done by responsible owners to reduce the impact of disasters. Animal First Aid for Disaster Responders

Animal First Aid for Disaster Responders Date - July 30-31 Training Venue - UCI Medical Center, Orange, CA About the Training Introduced by the HSUS Emergency Services Department at the National Conference on Animals in Disaster (NCAD) in 2008, this two day workshop provides hands-on instruction on first aid techniques which disaster responders can apply until more advanced veterinary help can be found. Participants learn how to identify and treat common disaster-related injuries, illnesses, and conditions; how to distinguish animals who need advanced care from those who need first aid, as well as those who pose a threat to other animals and to people; and what not to do in order to minimize harm to the animal.
