GET INVOLVED!

United Way Day of Action was Tuesday, June 21; however, there is still a lot of work to be done!
United Way Worldwide's goal: Reduce the national school dropout rate by 50% by 2018. In order for this goal to become a reality, United Way must secure one million volunteers nationally to read to, mentor, and tutor the children of our communities.
Read how United Way of St. Joseph County is helping meet that goal and what you can do to help out.
Read More Did you know? Sam, from St. Joseph County, was a second grader who was behind in school because of his trouble with both math and language arts skills. On the verge of being held back if he did not catch up, Sam was led to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of St. Joseph County, Inc. for help. Through their School Mentor Program, funded by United Way, Sam was matched up with his Big Brother John, who met with him one-on-one, and helped him to better understand both math and language arts. More than this, however, John helped Sam to develop a more positive attitude towards school, and by the end of the year, United Way funding had helped Sam increase his grades, allowing him to move on to the 3rd grade with the rest of his class. |
