Building Awareness for WOC Nurse Week
April 12 - 18, 2009
Best wishes to all WOC Nurses during WOC Nurse Week! Thank you all for the hard work you do on a daily basis, the compassion you show for patients, the passion you show for everything you do and for the dedication to our specialty nursing practice. Our specialty is 41 years old this year and we have much to celebrate. The Society is embarking upon a research study to demonstrate our value, we have just finished a visit to Capital Hill to let our legislators know what we do and how we can be of assistance, our 41st Annual Conference will be held in St. Louis in June and other completed projects will be coming your way soon. We just finished negotiating to hold a joint educational conference with the World Council of Enterostomal Therapists in June 2010 in Phoenix, our updated pressure ulcer guidelines are being worked on and a new guideline on care of the person with an ostomy is nearing completion. What a great and exciting time for the WOCN and for each of you. Congratulations on being part of such a vibrant and exciting nursing specialty organization.

Call for Preceptors!
To keep in the spirit of WOC Nurse Week and mentoring, the WOCN Society, in collaboration with the WOCN Education Program Directors have developed a Preceptor Search function for the WOCN Web site. Before we can officially launch the site, we need as many members as possible to sign up to be included in the database. Signing up doesn't mean you are committing to anything, it just adds your name to the list. If you are contacted by a student, you'll still need to provide additional verification. What a great way to be a mentor!

We invite your expertise and enthusiasm to join our active and talented group of volunteers. If you are a member, able to participate on conference calls and communicate electronically, you're qualified, so volunteer today! Deadline to complete the online application is Friday, April 17th.

| New Global Learning Center |
 Get ready for a brand new, fully redesigned WOCN Global Learning Center. The new look site will contain all of the existing courses, along with a new interactive course on Fistula Management. If you've signed up or taken courses through the current GLC, your information will be transferred to the new site as well. Look for the new site to be launched in early May along with free courses for members.

Dedicated members from the WOCN Metro NY Affiliate showed their support for raising awareness of Colon Cancer prevention, advocacy, and research by walking in the 6th Annual New York Colon Cancer Challenge. Congratulations to those who attended.
