Sexual Assault Agency fills gap left by the closing of Rape Crisis
agency, Major Donor provides help and challenges others to do the same.
The Sexual Assault Crisis & Support Center which
currently provides support services to victims of Sexual Abuse and their
families in S. Kennebec, Knox, & Waldo Counties will expand their service
area to include Northern Kennebec & Somerset Counties in order to ensure
that survivors of sexual violence are not without these important services due
to the recent unfortunate closing of Rape Crisis Assistance &
Prevention. The services include free:

We know that everyone in this community knows someone that
has been affected by Sexual Violence, based on Maine Statistics 1 in 4 Mainers
will be a victim of some form of Sexual Violence.
The agency needs the help and support of committed community
members who have made it clear that services
are truly needed, one of these committed community members is Peter MCavoy
of Oakland who has generously donated $10,000 to assist in setting up a Sexual
Assault Center in the Waterville area and has offered to match any donations to
the agency up to another $10,000. Anyone
interested in helping this agency to provide these services that help to
minimize the trauma of sexual violence to woman, children & men can send a

Guiding Light Awards 2009
It is with great honor that on behalf of the Staff and Board of Directors of the Sexual Assault Crisis
& Support Center, that Kay Landry, Sex Offender Treatment Provider and Steven Rowe, Former Maine Attorney General have been recognized as a leaders in our
community in "leading the way to understanding" and making a difference in the
lives of those affected by sexual violence.
Kay Landry's commitment is clear by the actions in the work she is doing in holding
offenders accountable, supporting advocacy, and great collaboration with our
agency and activities such as the containment model.
Steven Rowe's commitment is clear by the actions in the
work he has done in advocating for and implementing policies that support victim
safety, supporting advocacy agencies such as ours, and great collaboration with
our agency during activities such as the "Take Back The Night" marches,
Celebrity Waiter Dinner and many other events and trainings that he has
agreed to be a part of.
These two extraordinary people have shown that they go
"above and beyond" with respect to empathy and understanding of survivors of
this awful crime that affects the mind, body, and soul of its victims.
They will be honored at the Annual Meeting on January 14, 2009

PRESENTORS
Sgt William
Rousseau (Retired) was a member of
the Tampa Police Dept. in Tampa, Fl. for 29 years. He was the department's
Domestic Violence Coordinator and created and supervised the departments Sex
Crimes Family Violence Unit. Bill is a nationally recognized expert in domestic
violence by the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Defense and the
U.S. Attorney's Office. He has taught for Florida State University, the
University of South Florida, and the United States Army. He has received
numerous awards for his work in domestic violence. Bill has a Bachelors degree
from the University of South Florida. Bill is the past Chairperson of the
Hillsborough County Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team and is the current
Vice President of the National Institute of Crime Prevention.
Capt.
Rod Reder (Retired) was
with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Tampa Fl. for 29 years.He
was most recently assigned as a Deputy District Commander. Rod was previously
the Crimes Against Persons supervisor, and was the Domestic Violence
Coordinator for the Sheriff's Office for seven years. He teaches for Florida
State University, the University of South Florida and the U.S. Army. Rod is
recognized nationwide as an expert in domestic violence by the U.S. Department
of Defense and the U. S. Department of Justice. He has received numerous awards
such as the Florida Governors "Peace at Home Award". Rod is the Vice President
of the National Institute of Crime Prevention. Rod is a graduate of the 109th
session of the Southern Police Institute, University of Louisville. Rod has a
Bachelor's degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa.
