A Great Year for Good Sports
 
2008 proved to be another successful year for Good Sports as we impacted over 43,000 kids with our equipment grants. A total of 134 organizations received necessary equipment to keep kids involved in safe and healthy out-of-school activities.
 
Organizations we supported reported that Good Sports equipment grants were able to:

  • Decrease program costs making their programs more affordable and accessible
  • Enhance the program experience for the participants
  • Expand their existing programs 

Good Sports hopes to continue our success in 2009 and we've been off to a great start!

Since Good Sports arrival in Chicago last July, we have served over 3,000 kids donating brand new equipment to help them stay active, healthy and happy. To support our efforts, we have launched a partnership with the Chicago Blackhawks as their official equipment donation partner. Fans visiting their community page can click on our logo to learn more about Good Sports and access our grant application.  Check it out!
 

Jr. Celtics Program Receives Equipment Donation
 
Good Sports teamed up with the YMCA of Greater Boston, the Boston Celtics, and Reebok toceltics announce the second year of Jr. Celtics, a values and skill-based sports program designed to help young student athletes progress successfully into competitive sports. The Jr. Celtics program emphasizes fun, personal excellence and skills while deemphasizing winning at all costs. As part of our partnership, Good Sports donated more than 250 basketballs and 1,800 wrist bands.
Brand New Community Health Program!
 
Good Sports, with the support of the CAVU Foundation, has launched a new equipment program specifically targeted toward healthy weight clinics, diabetes programs, and obesity treatment and prevention programs in community health centers.  soccer donation dayThis partnership will allow patients from Codman Square, Greater Lawrence, Holyoke and Whittier Street Health Centers to participate in sports and other fitness activities that may have been previously inaccessible due to the cost of equipment. We will provide participants with exercise equipment necessary  to reach their fitness goals, giving them the resources they need to make physical activity a key part of their lives.  This may include providing equipment that supports exercise in their home, outfitting a local community center or school with the equipment necessary to support them or equipping the community health center with the resources to provide physical activity to their patients!


First Annual Philadelphia Legends of the Ball!
 
On January 22nd Good Sports hosted their first annual Philadelphia Legends of the Ball at the Independence Visitor Center in downtown Philadelphia.
 
Honored at the event  were Dunkin Donuts, David Fisher of Tioga Baseball, and the Philadelphia Eagles for their outstanding support of youth sports in the Philadelphia area. Ron Burke of Comcast SportsNet was the master of ceremonies, and New Orleans Saint and Philadelphia native Jarhi Evans was the guest speaker.

The Legends of the Ball brought together professionals from the sports industry and youth sports supporters across Philadelphia to help increase awareness of the lack of physical activity among youth today.  
 
The money raised at the event will help Good Sports secure necessary sports equipment for those who need it most. Good Sports would like to send a special thank you to our Host Committee and all of our sponsors, including Comcast SportsNet, Dunkin Donuts, Alliance Marketing Partners, Silencia and ESPN 950.
