The Nature Trust Welcomes Our New CEO

 

Nature Trust CEO, Jasper LamentThe Nature Trust of BC is pleased to welcome our new CEO, Dr. Jasper Lament.

 

Jasper brings two decades of biology, conservation and non-profit experience to his new leadership position as CEO of The Nature Trust. He was born and raised in Vancouver, and is excited to help The Nature Trust continue its great tradition of delivering conservation results for British Columbia.

 

He was most recently a Senior Environmental Coordinator at BC Hydro where he focused on fisheries and species at risk compliance. Prior to returning home to BC, he was a conservation program manager at Ducks Unlimited's National Headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee. He has also managed numerous wetlands restoration projects in California, spanning from the Napa Valley to San Diego Bay.

 

Jasper is a strong believer in conservation partnerships, and was very engaged in multi-agency partnerships including the San Francisco Bay Joint Venture. He also served for over five years on the Staff of the North American Wetlands Conservation Council, which provides matching grants to habitat conservation partnerships across Canada, the United States and Mexico.

 

Jasper holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biology and Geography from Queen's University, and a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Miami in Florida.

Thanks to everyone who made this community celebration and "fun-raiser" for Moorecroft Regional Park on Saturday, September 8th a success. Special thanks to Trish and Kim Mauriks from Northwest Bay Ranch for hosting the event along with the Moorecrofters and friends for being outstanding volunteers. We greatly appreciate our sponsors Coastal Community Credit Union - Nanoose Bay Branch and Coast Realty Group and food sponsors: the Bryce Family, Little Qualicum Cheeseworks, Northwest Bay Ranch and Thrifty Foods. Kudos to Celtic Chaos and Denim & Diamonds for entertaining guests with live music as well as artists Debbie Goodman, D.F. Gray, Joyce Hedges, Ilse Holling, Dave Kasprick, Debra Kasprick, Lyndia Terre and photographer Mike Yip for their displays. Our Conservation Youth Crew program has been chosen as a possible $50,000 grant recipient in the Shell FuellingChange program.

 

You can help us win this grant by voting for our Conservation Crew program on Shell's FuellingChange website. We need to be in the top 4 to win the grant and are currently in 8th place.

Amateur photographers in BC are invited to enter our 2012 Nature & Water Photo Contest. We are looking for striking digital images of BC's water, wildlife and plants.

 

The grand prize winner will have the opportunity to have professional photographer Graham Osborne review a portfolio of 5 images and provide critical feedback, and receive a framed version of the winning photo.

 

The contest opens October 15th and closes December 7th. Public voting will begin Dec. 11 and end Dec. 14 with the grand prize winner announced Dec. 19. Photos can be uploaded to flickr or e-mailed to photos@naturetrust.bc.ca. If you have any questions, please email rrivers@naturetrust.bc.ca.

Coffee Cutters: Join the Chilliwack Field Naturalists for their "Coffee Cutters" on the Camp River property. One hour of blackberry pruning is followed by coffee at Tim Horton's.
