The Last Piece of the Puzzle: Burgoyne Bay

Burgoyne Bay, Salt Spring Island

Burgoyne Bay, Salt Spring Island

Help us to conserve this 22.3 hectare waterfront treasure on Burgoyne Bay, Salt Spring Island. The last private property on the north side of Burgoyne Bay is bordered by Burgoyne Bay Provincial Park, Mount Maxwell Provincial Park and Mount Maxwell Ecological Reserve.

The parks and ecological reserve protect stands of old-growth Douglas-fir, Garry oak meadows, open grasslands, salmon bearing creeks, rocky slopes, and the largest undeveloped estuary in the Gulf Islands.

The total contiguous protected area with the addition of this property is 1168 hectares, which would include 9.2 kilometres of continuous protected shoreline. It is home to an abundance of species including Great Blue Herons, bats, butterflies, reptiles, and amphibians such as Pacific Tree Frogs. Check out the above video of this amazing place.

We need your help to raise $100,000 to complete this $1.1 million project. Click here to donate online.

THE PERFECT GIFT
A Gift to Nature

Give to The Nature Trust of BCThe Nature Trust of BC is celebrating 40 years of conservation this year and we are fundraising for three very special properties. Please consider a gift to support these critical conservation lands for someone special in your life.

  • Moorecroft, Vancouver Island: an amazing waterfront property that will become a regional park for all to enjoy.
  • Burgoyne Bay, Salt Spring Island: home to Garry oak, Douglas-fir, and an abundance of wildlife.
  • Twin Lakes, Okanagan: a 2,000 acre grassland property that features rare plants and animals.

Help us celebrate with a gift to nature.

THANK YOU!

Outstanding Volunteers

Thank you to the many people who helped with the 21st Brant Wildlife Festival on Vancouver Island. A successful series of nature events in Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Nanaimo, Port Alberni and Comox in March and April was made possible by dozens of volunteer tour leaders, guest speakers, and artists.

The Nature Trust of BC coordinated the festival with sponsorship from BC Ministry of Environment, City of Parksville, Ducks Unlimited Canada, Lohn Foundation and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. We also want to thank the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Foundation for sponsoring the opening and movie nights.
