Nature Trust
A GIFT FOR ALL SEASONS
Donate to The Nature Trust this holiday season

Donate to The Nature Trust this Holiday Season! When planning your gift giving this holiday season, consider a gift to nature by donating to The Nature Trust. Your support will help us to conserve BC and its amazing plants and wildlife. Recent donations allowed us to provide Western Painted Turtles with a place to "loaf" at Elizabeth Lake in the East Kootenay.

Rob Neil, East Kootenay Conservation Land Manager, explains,

Painted Turtle by D. Cannings"Many people don't realize that because turtles are cold blooded, they need to come out of the water to warm up - hence, they need to loaf on logs and rocks. Increasing their body temperature is important for digesting food, ridding themselves of algae and helping to promote healthy shell growth. At Elizabeth Lake we installed logs so that the turtles and waterfowl would have somewhere to rest."

This is just one small example of how your donation can help to keep nature healthy, and turtles and our children, too! We hope you will make a gift for all seasons to The Nature Trust.
HONOURING MARK ANGELO
Thank you everyone!

Daniel Nocente, Mark Angelo, Don KrogsethOn Ocotober 21 over 170 people enjoyed a special evening recognizing Mark Angelo as a Conservation Champion. With the support of generous donors, The Nature Trust was able to raise more than $19,000 on the live and silent auctions. Special thanks to our Gold Table sponsors, dinner sponsors, wine sponsor and those who provided auction items. An anonymous donor gave $50,000 for the latest Heart of the Fraser property during the event and offered a challenge to others to match it. Already $35,000 has been pledged.

PEARL JAM FANS
A good time for a good cause

Thank you to The Wishlist Foundation for hosting a fundraiser on September 25 in Vancouver to benefit our conservation activities.

As Brad Laing from the Board of Directors for the Foundation said, "I think that The Nature Trust provides a wonderful service for our future by preserving green space. From our Pearl Jam pre-show fundraiser we were able to raise over $3,000 and I know it will get put to good use preserving our future. I am very proud of what both The Wishlist Foundation and The Nature Trust were able to raise over a 4-hour period by friends getting together before a Pearl Jam concert."

A special thank you to those who donated auction and raffle items including; Starbucks Capilano Mall, Joey's and Plum Clothing.

PHOTO CONTEST
Grand Prize Winner!

Clockwise from left: Don Erhardt, Kevin Lee, Len Langevin, Daphne EzeCongratulations to Don Erhardt for his photo of Takakkaw Falls in Yoho National Park. The moonlit shot was a winner with our judges and members of the public who voted. Don explains some of the challenges of capturing this outstanding image.

"After a trying seven hours working with a friend to capture the magic of Takakkaw Falls, I thought we were done. It was 10 p.m. Wondering if we should call it a day, my friend noticed the glacier opposite the falls glowing under moonlight. 'I wonder how long it will take the moon to rise above the falls to illuminate them.' An hour after midnight the moon's plane of light traced down the mountainside, across the valley floor and up the falls with such speed that our weariness was suspended by wonder.

"I was about 18 inches above the water for this image and about a half kilometer from the falls.  Each frame took several minutes to expose and we could feel the icy fingers from the glacier high above the falls. Weird as it sounds it's like nature was communicating with us. I used a Nikon D700 14-24 mm lens set at 14mm, f.8 and a 62 second exposure at iso 1600.

"What was so astonishing was the peacefulness of the falls under the moonlight. It seemed we were the only ones to have ever seen the falls like this. Awe struck. A rare night indeed. I'll never forget it. Luck is where opportunity meets preparedness, but I like to think there's still a bit of magic in the stars."

Congratulations to category winners: Daphne Eze for All Living Things (lower right), Len Langevin for Renewing Nature (upper left) and Kevin Lee for Nature as Art (upper middle). Special thanks to Lens & Shutter and Nikon for providing prizes, judges Graham Osborne, Andrew Klaver and Vjeko Sager, and everyone who submitted photos and voted for photos.
