CORPORATE SUPPORT
HSBC Bank Canada Supports Crews
We are very appreciative that HSBC Bank Canada is once again supporting our province wide HSBC Conservation Youth Crew program with a donation of $50,000.
The crews undertake crucial on-the-ground work from May to September on properties throughout BC including removing invasive weeds, restoring wetlands, installing signs and monitoring wildlife.

LAND ACQUISITION
Thank you to all our donors and partners who enabled us to complete the acquisition of 5.3 hectares (13 acres) on the Squamish estuary. This property provides outstanding habitat for 207 bird species as well as reptiles, amphibians, mammals and fish. It provides a buffer to the new Wildlife Management Area and access for students at Capilano University to study ecology and for the community to enjoy trails and learn from information kiosks (www.naturetrust.bc.ca/releases.php). |
THE MANY FACES OF THE NATURE TRUST
The Face of the Okanagan
The Nature Trust has regional land managers based in Cranbrook, Nanaimo and Oliver. These dedicated individuals are involved in planning work on properties, community education, overseeing the Conservation Youth Crews, meeting with local government and stakeholders, and addressing a wide variety of regional issues.
We would like to introduce Carl MacNaughton, our South Okanagan Conservation Land Manager.
"I am a fifth generation Okanagan resident. My grandparents were farmers, ranchers, orchardists and naturalists. I grew up in a rural area hiking, camping and learning all about local plants and animals. I studied environmental science at Royal Roads in Victoria and then volunteered with wildlife biologists to gain practical experience. In 1998 I was hired as an assistant to the South Okanagan Conservation Land Manager and shortly thereafter took over the role." |
