The House passed a bill that will allow the people of Puerto Rico to vote on whether or not they want to become the 51st state.

 

On Thursday, FL Governor Charlie Crist is announced he will run for Senate as an Independent. Senator George LeMieux (R-FL), who was appointed by Crist, has said he will not support Crist's bid.

 

Senate Democrats are beginning work on contingency plans to push a Democrats' immigration reform plan through without Republican support if necessary.  The plan will include a pathway to citizenship for 12 million illegal immigrants.

 

Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) is working on a K Street reform bill that would ban Congressional members from lobbying and place a 6 year "cooling off period" before Congressional Staffers could lobby.

 

On Thursday, Democrats announced their legislation as a reaction to the recent Citizens United Supreme Court decision that lifted restrictions on political spending by corporations, trade associations, and non profits.

 

House Members have asked President Obama to deploy the National Guard to the US/Mexico border in hopes of stemming the outbreak of violence and securing the border.
