"We have entered a political wonderland, where the rules are whatever Democrats say they are. Mrs. Pelosi and the White House are resorting to these abuses because their bill is so unpopular that a majority even of their own party doesn't want to vote for it."

The Health Care Battle in the House |
|
|
Despite the American people saying again and again to Democrats to keep their hands off our health care system, the Democrats are still plotting how to pass their health care bill by any means necessary. The latest scheme is a procedural hoax being developed by Speaker Pelosi and Chairman of the House Rules Committee Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY). Under the reconciliation plan, the House would approve the Senate's bill and then fix problem areas using "sidecar" amendments which would be sent to the Senate to pass with a simple majority instead of the 60 votes.
However, House Rules Committee Chairman Louise Slaughter (D-NY) is considering inserting a "self-executing rule" that would only require the House to vote once on the "sidecar" amendments but not on the real Senate bill. The rule would then say the Senate bill is passed by the House and be sent to President Obama for signature. Speaker Pelosi has approved of this strategy, and Democrats are willing to do whatever it takes to pass this bill.
House Republicans are releasing their plan for a resolution requiring the House to conduct an up-or-down vote on the Senate bill. The resolution would block Democrats from using the Slaughter rule to deem the bill as passed.
The key to defeating health care will be the continued engagement of the American people on this issue. As women, it is crucial that we continue to make our voice heard on this issue. We have a great deal at stake in the current health care debate as we most often find ourselves making the health care decisions in our families.

Health Care Talking Points |
|
Below is a list of the talking points that can be used, in part or in full, when talking to a legislator: - The health care bill will cut $500 billion from Medicare and $170 billion from Medicare Advantage, resulting in rationed and inferior medical care for senior citizens. - The health care bill creates more than 110 new agencies and bureaucracies in the federal government. - The health care bill contains $2.5 trillion in new government spending.* - The health care bill collects taxes 3 years prior to beginning the program. - The health care bill takes over 1/6 of the US economy. - The health care bill contains the unconstitutional individual mandate to buy health insurance. - The health care bill includes taxpayer funding of elective abortions. - The health care bill is so big (2600 pages) that no one really knows what's in it. - The health care bill does not address one of the primary causes of increased premiums, tort reform - The health care bill does not address another primary cause of increased premiums, the lack of competition among the states. *A trillion dollars is 10,000 times a million dollars! If you think that if Obamacare passes, all it will take to overturn it is a return to a Republican-majority, think again. Even if the Republicans re-capture the House and Senate in November, as long as Obama is president, he will veto any bill that overturns his healthcare bill. It could take YEARS, if ever, to overturn this bill LET'S STOP IT NOW. PICK UP THE PHONE AND START CALLING!
Thank you to our Legislative Committee for these talking points! |

Hoyer went on to say the American people aren't interested in the process but rather the reforms. He also claimed the Obamacare bill has received the most transparent and thorough vetting in his 30 years in the Congress.
Senate Republicans are preparing a string of amendments on the Democrat's health care bill.
On Monday, Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT), Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee introduced his financial industry overhaul plan which he claims would prevent future economic crisis.
