TENNIS

We are coming into monsoon season. Please, if there are threatening clouds call before coming over to the club. If it is raining across the street it doesn't necessarily mean that it is raining here.
Also, as you have probably noticed, the courts are very busy. If you are not going to use your court please call and cancel your reservation.
Thank you,
Bernie

TEAM TENNIS
Have you tried this yet? We have had some exciting Team Tennis here at PRC but nothing like what we had these past six weeks. All six teams were very competitive with super-tie-breakers deciding several final outcomes! After six weeks of competition the two top teams faced off for the championship. After five matches between Lennie's Lions and "Team Without a Name", it was still tied! So the last match would decide it all and a tie-breaker was necessary to determine its outcome. Finally, "Team Without a Name" took the honors (and I mean honors, because we got NO PRIZE!) by defeating a very tenacious Lennie's Lions 5-3 in the tie-breaker. Congratulations to "Team Without a Name" members, Kenady Hague, Patty Pollock, Terri Abady, John Hollis, and Steve Waples. Thanks to the PRC Tennis Pro, Sterling Fetty, for organizing the event. The team tennis format is lots of fun...just ask those who have played it and watch out for the next sign-up.
- July 11, 12 & 13 - PRC Invitational Money Tournament
- July 19 - Grand Prix Singles Tournament
- July 26 - Arrowhead Country Club Tennis Exchange
- August 9 - Red Mountain Ranch Country Club Tennis Exchange
- August 16 - Grand Prix Doubles Tournament

Josh also competed at the Crown of Texas tournament in Amarillo on Saturday, June 7, and then served as a director on Sunday, June 8, bettering his qualifications as a national director.
Over the 4th of July weekend, another junior club member will compete in the National Championships in San Jose, California. Ehren Falk qualified in the Foil event for the youth class for ages 14 and under.

CONGRATULATIONS
The Prescott Racquet Club sent two teams to Show Low, AZ for the Deuces Wild Triathlon Competition and came home with 1st and 2nd place awards. On Saturday, members Mike Woods, Eric Gallo, and Steve Waples won the Olympic Distance Triathlon. The following day PRC's Stacy Holyfield (personal trainer), Bob Thomas, and Steve Waples placed 2nd in the Xterra (off road) triathlon competition. Mike Woods and Stacy braved the 55 degree water and performed incredibly well in the swim portion. Stacy went on to win the sit-up contest at the awards ceremony and won herself a $250 competition wet-suit. It's only fitting that one of PRC's personal trainers would win the sit-up competition. Bob Thomas and Steve Waples did the biking portions. Bob competed on one of the most challenging Mountain Bike courses in the Xterra Triathlon series while Steve competed in the 25 mile road bike portion. Eric Gallo and Steve Wapales completed the team events with the run competition. Everybody had a GREAT time and made plans for next year's competion. Thanks go to High Gear Bike Shop for sponsoring our team. The next event will be the Chino Valley competition featuring at least one of our junior competitors! |

Kids Camp
Kids Camp got off to a great start! Due to success over the past couple years and to the hard work of this year's directors, Anna Lerch and Kellie Shanahorn, the camp has been a great success. The campers are trained in several sports including gymnastics, fencing, tennis, dodgeball, and swimming. We are fortunate to have very high-level coaches working with the campers. Pat Waples has one of the most successful fencing programs in Arizona and has taught almost every class to our campers! Steve and Kimberly Waples have coached international gymnastics champions and are heading up the gymnastics classes. Kellie Shanahorn, Prescott High School's tennis coach, has been heading up the tennis instruction. Clare Hancock, PRC's Aquatics Director, has organized the swimming events. Special recognition to Norm Young for organizing and pioneering our first real Kids Camp hiking expedition. |
