Dear ,

This month's theme, The Power of Connection, is about understanding your personal impact and how you relate, bond and communicate with people in your world. Connecting to yourself, to others, to community, to the world and to your God, Spirit or Higher Power, is about having the awareness that as a human being, you are not meant to go it alone in this world... you need others not only to co-exist, but to flourish in the best possible way.

In order to connect, it is important to become honest with yourself and others; to share your hopes, dreams, desires, fears, failures and successes with people you trust; and to ask for assistance when needed. To develop reciprocity by giving as much as you receive, to engage in creative collaboration and to build your support systems takes courage and determination. It is only when you comprehend your personal power of influence, based on your values, beliefs, authentic actions, compassion, empathy and kindness that you can assist others on their path of being the best versions of themselves and pay it forward in the world. It's why I like being a Coach because I have the privilege of doing just that, helping others to reach their full potential and have fulfilling lives.

Below are some "words of wisdom" about the importance of connection:
  • "Man's main task is to give birth to himself."                -- Erich Fromm
  • "Only through our connectedness to others can we really know and enhance the self. And only through working on the self can we begin to enhance our connectedness to others." -- Harriet Lerner
  • "We want people to feel with us more than to act for us." -- George Eliot
  • "We cannot live for ourselves alone. Our lives are connected by a thousand invisible threads, and along these sympathetic fibers, our actions run as causes and return to us as results." -- Herman Melville
  • "The web of our life is of a mingled yarn, good and ill together." -- William Shakespeare
  • "We don't accomplish anything in this world alone ... and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one's life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that creates something."                            -- Sandra Day O'Conner
  • "We cannot hold a torch to light another's path without brightening our own."-- Ben Sweetland
  • "Each contact with a human being is so rare, so precious, one should preserve it."-- Anais Nin
I hope that you will become better aware of your connections with yourself through your body (dance, exercise, get up and move), mind (read something new, engage in interesting conversations, take a class) and spirit (pray, meditate, journal, develop your Intuition.) Develop your intimate relationships as well as new acquaintances and take time to be with God and the world as a whole. Take care of you and ask for what you need from people. And if you need to learn some proactive ideas on how to create a support system, be sure to read my column this month called "Know Who's Got Your Back."

And finally, if you need one-on-one assistance on discovering your authentic self, learning how to better communicate, understanding your values and how you "show up in the world," or how to create more powerful relationships... then please consider Excavive Life Coaching.  I offer a complimentary assessment to see if coaching is right for you, and can best be reached by e-mail to set up an appointment.

Excavive Reading List

My reading list is organized by 8 Pre-dominant Life Areas, and the sections have images of the books as links for easy purchasing through Amazon.com. And of course you are not limited to my suggestions-there is a search box on each page for browsing & shopping!

Friends and Clients often ask - What are you reading? I have just started The Talent Code by Daniel Coyle and am excited to learn about his belief that "greatness isn't born, but grown." Here is my short list of books I recommend for you based on the Power of Connection:
  • The Dance of Connection by Harriet Lerner
  • Oneness by Jeffery Moses
  • Non-violent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg
Remember to stop by my Reading List to browse some great titles for gaining insight on yourself.

Excavive in the Media

Last month I was interviewed for KET's "Louisville Life" TV show hosted by Candyce Clifft. March was National Optimism Month and I was tapped to provide ways to be positive in your life. The episode premiered on Thursday, March 25th at 7:30 PM on KET2. If you missed the show on March 25, a podcast of the episode will be posted on the Louisville Life site within 2-3 weeks. See more about "Louisville Life" here.

A special thank you to Cheryl Hart, host of the Hart to Heart talk show. I was a guest on her January show, "The Best Worst Day of the Year" and her February show, "do You Love You?" To see clips of the show on YouTube, click here. Cheryl has an amazing heart and powerful message, and I was delighted to be part of not just one, but 2 of her talk shows that focus on her personal mission of inspiring and empowering others.
