Horton hears a Who or PJ hears Shydijah

At the start of this school year, way back in August she was there.  Quiet and almost forgotten.  I asked her what she wanted to be. Small in voice it took a few days to hear what she was saying.   A nursing assistant was as high as she could dream.  I told her she was in luck I taught a nursing assistant class.  All she had to do was go and get her schedule changed.  Just like that she could have her dream.  We worked hard this year and I saw her grow.  I would like to say we grew close but we didn't, not really.  I was much closer and knew more about some of my other students.  They would come early in the morning or during their lunch and tell me all about what was happening in their lives.  She never did but she was always in class.  Ready to learn.  She was quiet you could hardly hear her at all.  But she was there.  When it was time to take the State Exam for Nursing Assistant once again if you weren't listening you wouldn't hear that she could not afford the exam fee.  I had to go to her and listen.  She didn't come right out and say it but after listening for a while I figured out that she wanted to take the exam but the fee made it out of her reach.  So I found money to pay for her exam.  What next?  I encouraged her to think.  What is the next step for you.  Where is it you want to go now?  Again you could hardly hear her at all.  An LPN or licensed practical nurse is what she thought that maybe she could be.  O.K. I said to her I hear you once more.  I contacted some nursing instructors at Erwin.  I am passing her off to you I told them, she is a good nurse and student. Keep an eye on her for me.  She is special to me. She is quiet and you have to really listen to hear her but please remember I told them a persons a person no matter how small.

As you can see it was a great year.  I can't imagine anything better than helping a child on their way.
