Locally, 2-1-1 serves 10 counties
Five United Ways partner to provide 2-1-1 Information and Referral to ten counties in Wisconsin including Oshkosh Area United Way, United Way of Sheboygan and Plymouth, Fond du Lac Area United Way, United Way Manitowoc County and United Way Fox Cities, host of the 2-1-1 service.
In 2007, it's first year, United Way 2-1-1 handled 526 Oshkosh area calls. The floods of 2008 helped increase these numbers to 1,436 calls in 2008. In 2009, 2-1-1 handled 1,993 calls in the greater Oshkosh area. In comparison, Winnebago County received 3,837 calls in 2008 and 4,509 calls in 2009.
The top referrals in 2009 were to St. Vinvent De Paul, the Salvation Army, American Red Cross and Fr. Carr's Place 2B. Meeting basic needs such as shelter, clothing and food continue to be the most referred services. 2-1-1 helps many, but can help the entire country with your advocacy. |
Today, 2-1-1 covers 80% of the country, but there are still to many people that don't have access. You can get involved simply by spreading the word about 2-1-1.
